It is best to know the season when to travel as you plan a safari in Tanzania because during the peak season, that is June to September and December to January the competition to participate in this adventure is overwhelmingly high. The peak season of Tanzania safari is characterized with high population of tourists on ground

What Are The Top 5 Safari Activities To Do In Tanzania As Family

Game Safaris in Tanzania

When talking about game safaris in Africa, Tanzania is that ideal destination that must not miss from the top tier. The Great Wildebeest migration places Tanzania on the front line of African safaris you can participate in with family. During the great Wildebeest migration, millions of animals annually make there journey from Serengeti National Park in Tanzania into Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya but what is surprising is that there reason for this moving is an assumption as both herbivore and carnivores actively participate.

The game drives in the different game parks of Tanzania may offer you the chance to spot a number wild animals including the big five. During the games drive on a Tanzania safari, you may get the chance to spot animals including impalas, lions, leopards, waterbucks, bushbucks, buffaloes, herds of elephants, elands, wildebeest, cheetahs, rhinos, kudus, klipspringer, warthogs, giraffes and others.

Some of the game safari destinations of Tanzania include Serengeti National Park, Tarangire National Park, Ngorongoro National Park, Nyerere National Park, Lake Manyara National Park, Ruaha National Park and others. Note that not all wild animals are found in all these national parks because some are special to particular parks.  It is better to state which animals you wish to see and our safari consultants will advise you where it is possible to find them in Tanzania.

Having a 4x4 wheel drive vehicle in good condition is very important and it must be terrain resistant. Having a pop up roof and enough window seats for the people travelling with are other interesting characteristic you can look out for.

Chimpanzees Trekking Adventure on Tanzania safari

Chimpanzee trekking safaris in Tanzania happen in Mahale National Park and Gombe National Park. Note that chimpanzee trekking in Tanzania is restricted as a conservation measure taken to minimize on the effects of mass tourism. Chimpanzee trekking is an adventure were tourists are accompanied by ranger guide and have one hour with a fully habituated chimpanzee community.

Each day two chimpanzee trekking sessions are carried out in these parks that is morning and afternoon. To participate in chimpanzee trekking, tourists have to book chimpanzee permits in advance as they sell out because of the limited number available to the public.  The Mahale National Park and Gombe National Park are under the management of CSWCT which is under the Jane Goodall support.

Note that the age limit for chimpanzee trekking is 12 years and beyond because children under this age may not be in position to abide by the rules of chimpanzee trekking. The chimpanzees are very sensitive primates to intruders in there vicinity and even the time of finding them is not easy to determine because they freely move.

Water activities on Safari In Tanzania

Tanzania has a coastline where as a family you can engage in some activities. You can even go as far as Zanzibar the iconic beach safari adventure of East Africa. At Zanzibar, you may participate in activities including swimming, scuba diving, surfing, kayaking, snorkeling, boat cruise and others. A walks by the white sandy beaches of Zanzibar is always exciting.

There chances of visiting the spice market, the spot where slaves were assembled before being selling them to their masters and others.

On the main land at Dar el Salaam, there several beaches were you can wind and unwind from the events enjoyed during the Tanzania safari. There are absentee land lord homes by the beach where you can stay with the family for the holiday season in Tanzania. Within some Tanzania National Parks, you can do boat trips where you can get a closer at the animals in these parks as they move to the banks to quench thirst or take a bath other than in the vehicle.

Cultural Tour On Tanzania Safari

A cultural visit to the Tanzania community gives you a glimpse into the daily life of the people in Tanzania. The Visit to the Masai community that live close to the Ngorongoro National Park offers an opportunity to know about how they survive. The Masai are mainly nomadic pastoralists a behavior they have carried on since time immemorial. Cattle is treasured in Masai people and is regarded as one of the sources of food for there survival.

Fathers exchange their daughters with cattle as a form of dowry to another family and of you are lucky you may get the chance to be part of the customary marriage ceremony of the Masai. The Masai are great crafts makers which they makes from beads and create ornaments, shoe decorations and others. tourists on safari have the chance to purchase dome of their products as souvenirs.

Climbing Mountain Kilimanjaro

Climbing mountain Kilimanjaro is on the list of several mountaineers. Mountain Kilimanjaro is single block with a glacier top and the tallest mountain in East Africa. The Kilimanjaro mountain has Uhuru as its heights peak at 5895 meters above sea level. Participating climbing mountain Kilimanjaro as a family is memorable and the more the merrier. Note that only adults are allowed to hike this mountain Kilimanjaro and you need to be in good shape.  Do not forget to pack the right mountaineering gears. In case you get height sickness, do not carry on because you may end in hurting yourself.

Other safari activities to do on Tanzania safari as family

Hot Air balloon Adventure

During the safari in Tanzania, you may choose the hot air balloon where you get to see wildlife from a more elevated point. There is a minimum number of people allowed to participate in this adventure. You get to enjoy the aerial view of some of the Tanzania National Parks which may be hard to do when on ground. The hot air balloon safari in Tanzania is available in Serengeti National Park, Tarangire National Park and others.

Walking Safari on Tanzania Tour

Get up close with nature by doing the game safari in Tanzania in a different way that is taking the hot air balloon adventure.  During this activity, the ranger guide escorts a team of tourists to use the paths that go through some national parks. Even though some Tanzania National Park have predators, you have to abide by the rules of this walk to cub your fears. Nature is always exciting yet challenging to move through.

Sports fishing safari in Tanzania

If the family are keen anglers, while on Tanzania safari, you may decide to engage in sports fishing in some of the water bodies of Tanzania including lake Tanganyika, Lake Malawi, Lake Victoria and others. A number of Rivers cross Tanzania too and you may decide to do s fishing adventure here. Some of the fish you may get chance to catch include Nile perch, Tilapia, catfish, lungfish, mudfish and others.

You need to obtain a fishing permit from TAWA in order to be allowed to do fishing on some waterbodies in Tanzania. Follow your passion when on safari in Tanzania in order to make those unforgettable memories.

How much is the cost of Tanzania safari activities

The cost of safari activities in Tanzania vary but you need to pay entrance fees as a compulsory payment before entering any Tanzania National Park or reserve. After the safari, we highly recommend our clients to generously tip those who extend a good service to them. This is one way to appreciate them and encourage them to better their services.

Other additional costs expected to incur while on safari in Tanzania include transport costs that is gas or fuel, vehicle hire, driver guide fees and others. Accommodation costs are expected to be incurred especially if travelling with family and most of the safari destinations in Tanzania are situated in quite a distance  with no possibility of returning on the same day of travel.

Carry some hard cash to use for on ground purchases because credit cards are not commonly used in Africa. The lengthy process of collecting money from them makes it quite hard to use the credit cards.

When is the best time to do a safari in Tanzania with family

The best time to do a safari in Tanzania is the dry season since most of the tour activities are outdoor. The dry season which is normally June to September and December To February.

The trip of a lifetime. This was the adventure of a lifetime. Being able to be so close to these majestic animals in their natural habitat was breathtaking. Our trip was only two days in duration and in hindsight I would have loved to have done a two day trip. Our trek into the forest was a relatively short one and with only eight people in the group was just the perfect number. Our driver/ guide Jason was the perfect host being so knowledgeable about the gorillas and the local communities surrounding the forest. Our consultant Denis whom we communicated with from the very start of of this experience was nothing short of excellent!! The communication at all times was professional, informative and quick. At times during our hour spent with the gorilla family I had to pinch myself to remind me that this was actually for real and not some excellent wildlife documentary. Words and pictures don’t really convey the remarkable experience that this was. If you are reading this then I would encourage you to have this experience for yourself. Encounter Africa Safaris we’re 5 star from begin to end.

Solo Female Traveler in Uganda - Exceptional experience while feeling safe Being a solo female traveler, I felt incredibly cared for in both the planning and the actual vacation. Denis and the Encounter Africa Safari Team helped me decide on how to book my trip within my budget and with hotels that don't penalize you for staying alone. Beyond that, they provided last-minute changes (about a week before) to what I wanted to see. When my driver arrived, it was a VERY early transfer from a different tour group in the high Bwindi Mountains. Huge shout out to Patrick (my driver), he was very knowledgeable, and has such PASSION for what he does. Not as someone who just bogs you down with all the information in his head (which he was able to answer all my many, many, many many questions) but truly wants to know what would make your vacation the BEST one, what you care about seeing, and provides a view of Uganda through a local's eyes and why it is beautiful to them. He helped me see beyond just the incredible experiences of the Safaris, Nile, Kazinga Channel, and White Water Rafting - but also the people, locations that are off the beaten path, and what truly makes Uganda special and unique in so many ways. I hope to return soon! Thank you for making this investment in memories worth every penny, and for helping me feel safe and respected by both the company staff and every person in the hotels and those we met along the way.

Professional, Responsive, and Reliable – Excellent Experience with Encounter Africa Safaris We had a fantastic experience with Encounter Africa Safaris in Uganda. From the very beginning, their communication was fast, clear, and professional. Monica, in particular, was incredibly responsive and helpful — she answered every question promptly and with genuine care, which gave us great peace of mind while planning our trip.We chose the two-day, one-night itinerary starting and ending in Kigali, with a border crossing into Uganda for gorilla trekking in Bwindi. Everything ran smoothly from pickup to drop-off at Kigali Airport. Our driver, Edgar, was outstanding — calm, friendly, and extremely skilled behind the wheel. Navigating the rough, winding gravel roads to Bwindi is no small task, but Edgar handled it with ease and confidence. We always felt safe and well taken care of, even in the most remote areas. The logistics were smooth, the planning thoughtful, and the overall experience was exactly what we hoped for — efficient, well-organized, and stress-free.If you're considering a safari or gorilla trekking adventure in Uganda, I can highly recommend Encounter Africa Safaris for their professionalism, personal touch, and great team.

Amazing experience I did the 3 day gorilla experience from Kigali and the whole trip was fantastic. From the initial planning with Denis who answered ALL my questions and queries. I was a little nervous about booking directly and online however the company was really professional. I was picked up in Kigali by Godwin and then taken to the Genocide museum then we had a beautiful dive through the Rwandan and Ugandan countryside. I stayed at the Rushaga Gorilla Haven Lodge where the staff were really friendly and with beautiful views of the forest from my bungalow. The gorilla trekking was such a great experience, we got to spent an hour with a family of about 15, I still cannot believe how close we were. On the trip back to Rwanda I had time to drop in at Bunyonyi Lake and did a 2 hour boat trip before being dropped back at Kigali Airport. I enjoyed the whole trip, Godwin took great care of me. I will return again in the future and definitely recommend. Thank you to the Encounter Africa team.

We recently completed a memorable trip organized by Encounter Africa, traveling from Kigali, Rwanda to Entebbe, Uganda, and overall, the experience was overall excellent. Right from the start, everything was well-organized, and the itinerary was thoughtfully planned. The lodges selected for our stay were generally of a high standard, offering comfort, great service, and beautiful surroundings. There was one exception during the trip where a lodge didn’t meet expectations, but we were very impressed with how quickly and professionally Encounter Africa responded. They changed the accommodation immediately without fuss, showing a strong commitment to guest satisfaction. A major highlight of the trip was our guide, Richard (Instagram: @richardmrtravels). Richard was nothing short of fantasti....knowledgeable, friendly, and always ready to help. Whether we had questions about the places we visited, needed assistance with logistics, or just wanted to learn more about the region, Richard was our go-to person. He’s highly recommended if you want a top-notch guide who truly cares about your experience. The gorilla and chimpanzee tracking excursions were absolutely unforgettable—well coordinated, with expert local trackers, and truly one-of-a-kind wildlife encounters. The only downside of the trip was the standard of transport provided. The vehicle’s air conditioning was not functioning properly, which made some of the longer drives uncomfortable, especially during the hotter parts of the day

Patrick was our tour guide and he was nothing short of amazing. He helped to make my wife and my honeymoon unforgettable. He made us feel totally comfortable and and was a pleasure to get to talk with and learn more about Uganda. Without hesitation I recommend his service. Uganda will hold a special place in our heart, in my ways because of Patrick’s level of service and caring nature. The chimp trekking and gorilla hiking were a once in a lifetime experience. Don’t hesitate to use this company and make sure to ask for Patrick!
