Our 5 Day Murchison Falls and Budongo chimp trekking safari is for those that have enoughtime to explore Murchison Falls for game viewing, boat cruises and chimp trekking. Murchison Falls located in the northern part of Uganda is the largest conservation area at 3840. The park is traversed by the mighty River Nile and is one of the exciting National Park to visit during your Uganda safari. Murchison Falls National Park has several vegetation types ranging from swamps, tropical rainforests of Budongo, Savannah woodland and grassland that are home to a variety of wildlife that include chimpanzees in Budongo forest, lions, hyenas, buffaloes, leopards, hippos, crocodiles, the rare shoebill stock, small primates and other savannah, marine and forest species. Visitors to Murchison Falls National Park should not miss out on spectacular game drives and boat cruises to the base of the falls and delta. One may need 2 to 4 days to explore Murchison Falls National Park.

ITINERARY

Day 1: Drive to Murchison falls National Park via Zziwa Rhino Sanctuary

  • Morning/Transfer: You will be met by your guide of the day at your hotel for a short briefing about your 5 Day Murchison Falls and budongo chimp trekking safari. safari and then drive 5-6 hours to Murchison Falls National Park.
  • En-route: The journey will take you to Zziwa Rhino Sanctuary to track both white and black Rhinos at the sanctuary. Rhinos were poached to extinction during the 1970’s but the government and other non-government organization are trying to restore them back. From Ziwa Rhino sanctuary,
  • Afternoon/Lunch: you will drive to Masindi for lunch before proceeding to Murchison Falls National Park with a visit to the top of the falls. This will be evening so you will transfer to your overnight accommodation.

Day 2: Morning game drive and Afternoon boat cruise to the bottom of the falls

  • Morning game drive: After breakfast, you will cross the ferry to the northern part of part of Murchison Falls National Park for your early morning game drive. This northern part of Murchison Falls National Park known as Paraa is rich in wild game that include lions, buffaloes, elephants, several antelopes, leopards and so much more. The delta region is also very rich with water animals such as hippos, crocodiles and the rare shoebill stock. At Murchison Falls National Park, it is nature that gives so the fact that wild animals graze and move naturally, seeing any animal will depend on your luck of the day.
  • Afternoon/Lunch: you will drive back to your lodge for lunch and then head for the afternoon boat cruise to the base of the falls. This boat cruise to the base of the falls is seen as the highlight of all activities at Murchison Falls National Park since many water and land animals can be sighted. Expect to see lots of Buffaloes, elephants, crocodiles, many water birds as you cruise up-stream to the base of the falls where water squeezes itself into a narrow gorge to later explode as it flows down words.
  • Evening: You will return to the lodge for relaxation, swimming, dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Delta Cruise and afternoon game drive in Paraa

  • Morning: After breakfast, you will be picked up by your boat to go to the delta area of Murchison Falls National Park. While this boat cruise is not popular with tourists visiting Murchison Falls National Park, it offers a chance to see lots of wildlife species that include buffaloes, elephants, crocodiles, hippos and the rare shoebill stock. You will also observe the Nile reducing speed as it deposits waste before entering lake Albert.
  • Afternoon/Lunch: Return back to the lodge for lunch and then prepare for your evening game drive to look for animals you could have missed on the first game drive. Overnight as below.

Day 4: Chimp trekking in Budongo

  • Morning: After your breakfast, you will drive approximately 1-2 hours southward to Budongo Forest where you will spend one night. At Budongo forest, you will do chimpanzee trekking either in the morning or afternoon depending on your choice and availability of chimpanzee permits.
  • Briefing and trek: Before your chimpanzee trek, you will be briefed by your ranger guide of the day about the dos and don’ts while with chimpanzees and then set off to the forest to look for our closest relatives.  The walk will also expose you to other primates, plants and shrubs in this vast forest.
  • Afternoon/ Lunch: After your chimpanzee trek, you will return to the lodge for Lunch and relaxation, Later dinner and overnight.

Day 5: End of your 5 Day Murchison Falls and Budongo chimp trekking safari

  • Morning/Transfer: After breakfast, you will drive back to Kampala or Entebbe international Airport for your departure flight out.
  • Afternoon: You will stop for Lunch enroute, also at craft shops to grab some gifts and then proceed to end the trip in Kampala or Entebbe

Drive time: 5-6 hour’s drive

Safari Vans

STANDARD: 4X4 SAFARI VAN

Our standard mode of transport is by road and we use 4×4 Safari Vans customized for game viewing and photography. Each safari van comes with a professionally trained driver guide and fuel for the whole safari. Our Safari vans have viewing hatches and each client is entitled to a window seat. Our Vans can take up to eight people. We also have 4×4 Super Customs very comfortable and stable on the road. These carry up to 5 people with their luggage. We also have 4×4 RAV 4 for a group of two people

Safari land cruiser

UPGRADE: 4X4 LUXURY SAFARI LANDCRUISER

We have luxury latest Land Cruisers each driven by professionally trained driver guides and fuel. They have pop-up roofs for proper game viewing and photography. They come with a small fridge for cooling your drinking water while on safari (which is always included while IN THE VEHICLE). They have inverters for charging small gadgets such as your smartphones and cameras. They can seat five to a maximum of seven people and each client is guaranteed of a window seat.

THINGS TO CONSIDER

  • Gorilla permits: We encourage you to book gorilla permits in advance so that we secure your trekking spot. Gorilla permits are served on first come first serve at Uganda wildlife Authority. Please contact us so that we book them for you.
  • Cost of the gorilla permit: The gorilla permits in Uganda cost USD800 for Non-Foreign residents, USD700 for East African Foreign Residents, USD500 for Rest of Africa Residents and UGX300,000 for East African Citizens, cost applies for trekking in Both Bwindi impentrable National Park and Mgahinga National Park
  • Gorilla trekking Regions: Bwindi has 4 gorilla trekking sectors namely Buhoma, Ruhaga, Nkuringo and Ruhija. We shall book for you accommodation in respect to the permits location.
  • Physical Fitness: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi can be physically demanding, a certain level of fitness will be required, please ensure you are in good health and have a certain level of fitness before you leave your country.
  • Packing List: Please ensure you have comfortable walking/ hiking shoes that can handle the terrain in Bwindi, a rain Jacket, gloves, Camera, Binoculars,
  • Age Limit: The Minimum age for gorilla trekking in Uganda is 15 years and above, please ensure all travelers are aged 15years and above.
  • Accommodation Options: Please choose the accommodation that suits your budget, Bwindi has all options of Budget, Midrange and Luxury.
  • Means of Transport: You can opt to fly or drive to Bwindi, Flights take 1-2 hours, and driving takes 8-9 hours drive to Bwindi. For budget clients, we recommend use of safari vans, then others can opt for Safari Landcruisers. All vehicles are comfortable with enough leg room, AC and are driven by our professional driver guides.
  • Best time to visit: Bwindi can be visited all year round for gorilla trekking, The most preffered time is June to September, December to February because they are the drier months of the year.
  • Gorilla trekking Regulations: Uganda Wildlife Authority has rules and regulations to adhere while on your gorilla trek, See regulations here.
  • Chances of Seeing the Gorillas:  The chances of seeing gorillas are 98% because there are trackers who follow the movement of gorillas on a daily basis, they communicate to the Park guides and you walk in the direction they are.
  • Choose a gorilla family: You can choose your preferred gorilla family of the day of the trek, if you prefer a close/ easy trek due to your fitness level, please request it  and communicate to your guide.
  • Gorilla Habituation experience: Bwindi has an option of spending 4 hours with the gorillas called gorillas habituation,  the is only possible when you book a gorilla permit that costs USD1500 for Non- foreign residents, USD1000 for East African Residents, and UGX750,000 for East African Citizens
  • Other activities: There are several activities you can do in Bwindi namely Birding, Batwa cutural experience, Nature walks, Community visits.  All these can suppliment your gorilla trek in Bwindi.
  • Trip cost estimate: The cost of the 3day gorilla tour ranges from USD1300 to USD2860 per person, based on your travel style which is Budget to Luxury. The cost Includes gorilla permit, accommodation, Meals, transport, and all services.
  • About Bwindi: Bwindi impenetrable National Park is a UNESCO world heritage site, with half of the worlds gorilla population, it has more than 20 Habituated gorilla famillies in regions of Buhoma, Rushaga, Ruhija and Nkuringo.
