Yes, permits are required to participate in the Gorilla Habituation Experience and each costs $1500. These permits are limited in number to
ensure the conservation and protection of the gorillas and their habitats. Encounter Africa Safaris will assist you in securing the necessary permits as part of your safari package.
As of my knowledge cutoff in September 2023, the cost of a gorilla habituation permit in Uganda is $1,500 per person. This fee is separate
from the cost of your safari package and covers the permit required to participate in the Gorilla Habituation Experience.

options for accommodation where travelers can base to join the Habituation teams in the forest very early in the mornings.

The gorilla habituation experience typically begins at 7:30 a.m., which is earlier compared to the start time of 8:30 a.m. for gorilla trekking.
It is important to prepare and pack your lunch, as the return time from the habituation experience is usually after lunch due to the activities
involved in the forest.
A maximum of four gorilla habituation permits are allocated per day for each family of mountain gorillas. This restriction is in place to ensure
a gradual and careful process of acclimating the gorillas to human presence. It is crucial to avoid overwhelming the gorilla family with a large number of people, as this may frighten them and cause them to hide.
The best time for a gorilla habituation experience safari is during the dry seasons, which are generally from June to August and December to

By road: The most direct route from Kampala is Kampala to Kabale to Nkuringo, which is approximately 105 km from Kabale and takes about 4 hours. The roads in this mountainous area can be winding. You may choose to stay overnight in Kisoro before proceeding to the Nkuringo or
Rushaga gorilla areas. From Kisoro, it takes about 80 km to reach the
southern part of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
By air: Daily domestic flights depart from Kajjansi Air or Entebbe Airport to Kisoro Airstrip. From there, you can arrange a transfer
vehicle to the Nkuringo or Rushaga gorilla trekking areas. Charter flights can also be arranged to Kisoro Airstrip upon request.
