Kenya Safaris

Encounter Africa Safaris

Kenya Wildlife Safaris and Adventures

Kenya Safaris are the epitome of wildlife experiences. You will be blown away by the breathtaking landscapes, diverse wildlife, and warm hospitality on these wildlife adventures. Listen to the symphony of the savannah while you savour the scent of the wilderness, and feel the sun on your skin as you witness the majesty of lions, elephants, and giraffes in their natural habitat.

But a Kenyan safari is not just about the wildlife. It's also an opportunity to immerse yourself in the unique culture of the country. Meet local tribes and learn about their traditions, or savor the taste of traditional dishes. These experiences will add depth to your safari adventure and make it a once-in-a-lifetime experience you'll never forget.

The most adventurous of our Kenya safaris are the ones that extend into Uganda for the gorilla trekking experience. Such a combination of unmatched wildlife encounters in Africa is a once-in-a-lifetime experience you should not miss.

Best time for a Kenya safari

Kenya is a year-round safari destination, but the best time for safaris in this Swahili nation depends on your interests and priorities. Here's a quick breakdown:

Dry Season (June to October): This is the best time for wildlife viewing, as animals gather around water sources. This is also the best time for the Great Migration in the Maasai Mara.

Green Season (November to May): The landscape is lush and green, perfect for birdwatching and fewer crowds. However, some areas might be harder to access due to rain.

Kenya's Enriching Cultural Safari Experiences

Kenya's cultural safari experiences add an exciting dimension to wildlife adventures, complementing the nation's stunning landscapes and diverse wildlife. Immerse yourself in the traditions and hospitality of the iconic Maasai community by visiting a Maasai village. Engage in conversations with elders, witness traditional ceremonies, and try your hand at crafting.

In northern Kenya, safaris explore traditional dances, homesteads, and local markets of the Samburu and Turkana people to experience the rich heritage of these communities.

Along the coast, towns like Lamu and Mombasa showcase a blend of African, Arab, and Indian influences. Discover historical sites, culinary delights, and dhow sailing that provide a glimpse into the coastal culture.

Nairobi, the vibrant capital, offers a taste of urban Kenya with its contemporary art scene, street food adventures, and cultural events. These cultural safari experiences promise an immersive and deeply enriching journey.

Picking the Right Safari Style

When picking the right type of experience, Kenya Safaris offers a great list, each offering a unique perspective on the untamed natural world and incredible wildlife. Here's a closer look at your options:

Game Drives:

Game drives are the classic and most popular way to explore the wilderness of Kenya. These Kenya safaris are like stepping into a wildlife documentary. You'll hop into a specially designed safari vehicle, typically an open-top 4x4, with experienced guides at the wheel.

Game drives can get your heart racing as you search for the "Big Five" (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino) and other charismatic creatures. They often include both morning and afternoon excursions, which coincide with the times when animals are most active.

Walking Safaris:

For a more intimate and immersive experience with the African wilderness, consider a guided walking safari. This style of safari takes you out of the vehicle and into the bush, where you can connect with nature on a deeper level.

Kenya walking safaris provide a chance to experience the smaller, often-overlooked details of the ecosystem, learn about the tracks, plants, and insects that play vital roles in the ecosystem, and witness animals in their natural state intimately and peacefully.

Balloon Safaris:

Balloon safaris in Kenya provide a unique and exhilarating perspective on the wilderness. Drifting above the plains at dawn, you'll have a bird's-eye view of the breathtaking vistas and wildlife, including herds of elephants and giraffes, and perhaps even the elusive big cats. The ever-changing scenery below will leave you in awe. After the balloon adventure, you'll enjoy a champagne breakfast in the bush, a perfect way to celebrate your journey and soak in the natural beauty.

Selecting the right safari style ultimately depends on your preferences. Whether you choose a game drive for the thrill of tracking wildlife in the back of a 4x4 rover, a walking safari for a more intimate connection with nature and local communities, or a balloon safari for a unique perspective, each style offers a remarkable and memorable way to experience the incredible diversity of Kenya's wildlife Safaris.

Maasai Mara National Reserve

The Maasai Mara is a stunning region in southwestern Kenya that's famous for its incredible wildlife and breathtaking scenery. One of the most notable events that takes place here is the Great Migration, where millions of wildebeests and zebras cross the Mara River each year. As you explore this area, keep your eyes peeled for the "Big Five" - lions, leopards, elephants, buffalos, and rhinos - which are all native to this region. Getting to the Maasai Mara is relatively easy - you can take a short flight from Nairobi, the capital city of Kenya, and arrive in just about an hour. There are several airlines that offer flights to the Maasai Mara, and you can choose from a variety of different departure times and prices.

Typical Safari Itinerary: As you arrive in Nairobi, your adventure begins. The next day, you'll be transported to the Maasai Mara, where days are filled with morning and afternoon game drives, with the chance to visit a Maasai village to soak in cultural experiences. Afterwards, you return to Nairobi or extend your Kenya safari to another game park for a couple of days.

Best Time To Witness Masai Mara wildebeest Migration

Amboseli National Park

Tucked in the southern reaches of Kenya, Amboseli National Park is a hidden gem known for its jaw-dropping views of Mount Kilimanjaro and the awe-inspiring presence of countless elephants. The park lies approximately 290 kilometers (180 miles) to the southeast of Nairobi. For those eager to embark on this extraordinary journey, a swift flight from Nairobi to Amboseli beckons, requiring just about 45 minutes in the air.

A Typical Safari Itinerary: Your journey unfolds with a flight (drive) to Amboseli. Upon landing, you'll check into your lodge, from which you can marvel at the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro. Mornings and afternoons are dedicated to game drives, immersing you in the park's natural wonders. Finally, you depart from Amboseli, your soul enriched by the enchanting vistas.

6Day Amboseli and Malindi Beach Safari

Samburu National Reserve

Home to rare species like the Grevy's zebra and reticulated giraffe, alongside more familiar wildlife. Located in the captivating northern expanse of Kenya, the Samburu National Reserve is an enigmatic safari destination where the ordinary and the extraordinary merge.

It is approximately 350 kilometers (217 miles) north of Nairobi. This pristine wilderness promises unique Kenya Adventure Safaris. You can reach it by taking a domestic flight from Nairobi for about 1.5 hours.\

A Typical Safari Itinerary: From Nairobi, you can fly or drive 350 km to Samburu and check into a cozy lodge or tented camp. In the following days, you can explore this Kenyan park with morning and afternoon game drives, revealing rare species like the Grevy's zebra and reticulated giraffe. Return to Nairobi, or extend your safari to other parks like Masai Mara.

7Day Masai Mara and Diani Beach Safari

The Dreamy Kenya Coast

Imagine a holiday that transports you to a world of sun, sand and the soothing sounds of the sea. That's what you'll find on Kenya's stunning coast, where your worries melt away like ice cream under the warm sun. Places like Diani Beach and Watamu greet you with soft, golden sands and calm, clear waters. It's a perfect spot for just relaxing, sipping coconut water, and feeling the gentle sea breeze after Kenya wildlife safaris in the countryside. Whether you're snuggled up in a beachside villa, enjoying fresh seafood, or exploring the colorful underwater world of coral reefs, the Kenya coast is like a big, welcoming hug.

But there's more to this place than just beaches. You can visit coastal towns like Mombasa, Malindi, and Lamu, where history and culture come alive. Walk through ancient Swahili towns with pretty buildings, explore the intriguing Gede Ruins, and discover vibrant markets filled with fabrics, spices, and souvenirs. Don't forget to taste Swahili food, a tasty mix of flavors from Africa, Arabia, and India

We recently completed a memorable trip organized by Encounter Africa, traveling from Kigali, Rwanda to Entebbe, Uganda, and overall, the experience was overall excellent. Right from the start, everything was well-organized, and the itinerary was thoughtfully planned. The lodges selected for our stay were generally of a high standard, offering comfort, great service, and beautiful surroundings. There was one exception during the trip where a lodge didn’t meet expectations, but we were very impressed with how quickly and professionally Encounter Africa responded. They changed the accommodation immediately without fuss, showing a strong commitment to guest satisfaction. A major highlight of the trip was our guide, Richard (Instagram: @richardmrtravels). Richard was nothing short of fantasti....knowledgeable, friendly, and always ready to help. Whether we had questions about the places we visited, needed assistance with logistics, or just wanted to learn more about the region, Richard was our go-to person. He’s highly recommended if you want a top-notch guide who truly cares about your experience. The gorilla and chimpanzee tracking excursions were absolutely unforgettable—well coordinated, with expert local trackers, and truly one-of-a-kind wildlife encounters. The only downside of the trip was the standard of transport provided. The vehicle’s air conditioning was not functioning properly, which made some of the longer drives uncomfortable, especially during the hotter parts of the day

Patrick was our tour guide and he was nothing short of amazing. He helped to make my wife and my honeymoon unforgettable. He made us feel totally comfortable and and was a pleasure to get to talk with and learn more about Uganda. Without hesitation I recommend his service. Uganda will hold a special place in our heart, in my ways because of Patrick’s level of service and caring nature. The chimp trekking and gorilla hiking were a once in a lifetime experience. Don’t hesitate to use this company and make sure to ask for Patrick!

Cannot think of the words. Awe inspiring and empowering All I can say is wow, but I will say a lot more. From the first contact with Denis at HQ at the numerous enquires and changes along the way this group at Encounter Africa Safaris have been fantastic. Then touching base with Godwin Amanya at Kisoro to do the Gorilla experience was awesome. What a great guy and host and I will never forget his suggestion to go and visit the local village and the Batwa community. Truly inspiring❤️❤️❤️

Gorilla/chimpanzee trekking We took a 14-day tour of Uganda – with gorilla and chimpanzee trekking – and are absolutely thrilled! The whole organization was perfect from start to finish. Everything went smoothly: Transfers, accommodation, meals and activities were excellently coordinated. The highlight was of course the encounters with the gorillas in Bwindi National Park and the chimpanzees in Kibale Forest – an unforgettable experience we will never forget. Our guide deserves special praise. He was not only extremely competent and experienced, but also incredibly friendly, helpful and flexible. Thanks to his warm nature we felt safe and well looked after throughout the trip. He told us a lot about nature, wildlife and life in Uganda and made the trip very special. We can fully recommend this tour – it was a perfectly organized, varied and unforgettable trip through a beautiful country with warm people.

The trip of a lifetime. This was the adventure of a lifetime. Being able to be so close to these majestic animals in their natural habitat was breathtaking. Our trip was only two days in duration and in hindsight I would have loved to have done a two day trip. Our trek into the forest was a relatively short one and with only eight people in the group was just the perfect number. Our driver/ guide Jason was the perfect host being so knowledgeable about the gorillas and the local communities surrounding the forest. Our consultant Denis whom we communicated with from the very start of of this experience was nothing short of excellent!! The communication at all times was professional, informative and quick. At times during our hour spent with the gorilla family I had to pinch myself to remind me that this was actually for real and not some excellent wildlife documentary. Words and pictures don’t really convey the remarkable experience that this was. If you are reading this then I would encourage you to have this experience for yourself. Encounter Africa Safaris we’re 5 star from begin to end.

Solo Female Traveler in Uganda - Exceptional experience while feeling safe Being a solo female traveler, I felt incredibly cared for in both the planning and the actual vacation. Denis and the Encounter Africa Safari Team helped me decide on how to book my trip within my budget and with hotels that don't penalize you for staying alone. Beyond that, they provided last-minute changes (about a week before) to what I wanted to see. When my driver arrived, it was a VERY early transfer from a different tour group in the high Bwindi Mountains. Huge shout out to Patrick (my driver), he was very knowledgeable, and has such PASSION for what he does. Not as someone who just bogs you down with all the information in his head (which he was able to answer all my many, many, many many questions) but truly wants to know what would make your vacation the BEST one, what you care about seeing, and provides a view of Uganda through a local's eyes and why it is beautiful to them. He helped me see beyond just the incredible experiences of the Safaris, Nile, Kazinga Channel, and White Water Rafting - but also the people, locations that are off the beaten path, and what truly makes Uganda special and unique in so many ways. I hope to return soon! Thank you for making this investment in memories worth every penny, and for helping me feel safe and respected by both the company staff and every person in the hotels and those we met along the way.

Professional, Responsive, and Reliable – Excellent Experience with Encounter Africa Safaris We had a fantastic experience with Encounter Africa Safaris in Uganda. From the very beginning, their communication was fast, clear, and professional. Monica, in particular, was incredibly responsive and helpful — she answered every question promptly and with genuine care, which gave us great peace of mind while planning our trip.We chose the two-day, one-night itinerary starting and ending in Kigali, with a border crossing into Uganda for gorilla trekking in Bwindi. Everything ran smoothly from pickup to drop-off at Kigali Airport. Our driver, Edgar, was outstanding — calm, friendly, and extremely skilled behind the wheel. Navigating the rough, winding gravel roads to Bwindi is no small task, but Edgar handled it with ease and confidence. We always felt safe and well taken care of, even in the most remote areas. The logistics were smooth, the planning thoughtful, and the overall experience was exactly what we hoped for — efficient, well-organized, and stress-free.If you're considering a safari or gorilla trekking adventure in Uganda, I can highly recommend Encounter Africa Safaris for their professionalism, personal touch, and great team.

Amazing experience I did the 3 day gorilla experience from Kigali and the whole trip was fantastic. From the initial planning with Denis who answered ALL my questions and queries. I was a little nervous about booking directly and online however the company was really professional. I was picked up in Kigali by Godwin and then taken to the Genocide museum then we had a beautiful dive through the Rwandan and Ugandan countryside. I stayed at the Rushaga Gorilla Haven Lodge where the staff were really friendly and with beautiful views of the forest from my bungalow. The gorilla trekking was such a great experience, we got to spent an hour with a family of about 15, I still cannot believe how close we were. On the trip back to Rwanda I had time to drop in at Bunyonyi Lake and did a 2 hour boat trip before being dropped back at Kigali Airport. I enjoyed the whole trip, Godwin took great care of me. I will return again in the future and definitely recommend. Thank you to the Encounter Africa team.
