Low-season safari discounts in Uganda

 Low-season safari discounts in Uganda

Low-season discounts in Uganda are available yearly during the rainy seasons of March to April and October to November. During this time of the year, Uganda receives few tourists. As such, facilities and wildlife parks offer discounts to attract tourists to visit the country. While rainy seasons are considered not the best time to visit, they provide an excellent opportunity to see wildlife privately since only a few tourists will be available.

The Uganda wildlife authority, the main body regulating Uganda safaris destinations, sometimes offers discounted prices, but this is not guaranteed. In the past, the Uganda Wildlife Authority set discounted prices on Uganda gorilla permits for the low seasons, but this is not applicable now. These seasonal discounted safari costs used to happen during the low tourism season.

In Uganda, the low Uganda safari season is usually March to May and Late October to November. This low season, however, is an advantage for those wishing to use high-end facilities at a limited cost. In addition, some of the service providers give more discounted prices to break even.

The high tourism season on the other side in Uganda is from June to September and December to January. These Uganda safari costs are high because of the high demand for these services throughout the country, yet the service providers are limited.

Some accommodations, driver guides, car hire service providers, and others that make up the Uganda safari components lower their costs in the low season.

Why Visit Uganda For A Safari In the Low Season

Discounted prices on Uganda Safari

As mentioned above, service providers sometimes lower costs during the low season to attract customers. Suppose you have a limited Africa safari budget. In that case, you can use this bonanza to experience an Africa safari to Uganda on a limited budget.

Have No Obstruction From Other Uganda Safari Travelers

Fewer people visit in the low Uganda safari seasons, so expect fewer people obstructing you from getting the best wildlife pauses. Even fewer people are destroying the animals in the wild with vehicle noise. That can cause them to move into the thick parts of the National park, like the mountain gorillas, antelopes, and others.

Less Competition for the Facilities to use During Uganda Safari

The low seasons offer you plenty of facilities to use during your Uganda safari. There is less or no competition for facilities like accommodation, vehicle hire, professional driver guides, etc. You have a wide range of choices to choose from in the low Uganda safari seasons.

Meeting many infants

Most infants are born in the low seasons, but this is attributed to plenty of food supply due to heavy fall rains. Even though there is less destruction from tourists this season, the infants are born with fewer worries in the open space.

Chances of Receiving Exclusive Treatment On Uganda Safari

Since fewer tourists are booking the Uganda safari in the low tourism season, those who visit may be given exclusive treatment unprepared for it. When you take activities like gorilla trekking, you may have a solo gorilla trekking day that you may have yet to prepare for in case you are the only person or group booked for the day. Most service providers will give you more attention in their lodges because you are the only group to be attended to. Therefore, you are treated like Very Important people during your stay too.

Suppose you have to do gorilla trekking or chimpanzee trekking. In that case, you can suggest the area where you wish to do gorilla trekking. This is impossible in the peak season when you are just allocated an area without considering your choice. Even on the day of gorilla trekking in Uganda, you may be allowed to choose which gorilla family you wish to visit within your area. This may not be possible in the low season.

How To Book Discounted Low-Season Uganda Safaris

Know the date when you wish to do your Uganda safari and the type of activities you wish to get involved in during the Uganda safari. Some of the everyday Uganda safari activities include gorilla trekking, chimpanzee trekking, game drives, birding, white water rafting, visiting the source of the River Nile, and others.

If you need to book a permit for any of the above Uganda Safari activities, reserve your pass in advance so that you do not have to panic at the last moment. Although the low season may attract fewer people, sometimes the gorilla permits or chimpanzee trekking permits in this season are sold out.

When you send us an inquiry with the details of what you are interested in doing, our safari assistant can assist in drafting a suitable itinerary that can cover your interests with your assistance. When you agree to it, the permits must be booked in advance if it involves gorilla trekking in Uganda or chimpanzee trekking.

We advise all our clients to purchase the gorilla permits in advance to avoid panic at the last minute if they are sold out. Even other components of gorilla trekking can only be booked after reserving the gorilla permit, like accommodation, vehicle hire, driver guide booking, and so much more.

If you can pay for these safari components in installments, we advise you to top up in the stipulated time so you do not lose out. For example, the gorilla permits can be paid for in installments, but ensure you top up 90 days to the trekking date to avoid losing out.

What To Do During Discounted Uganda Safaris

Gorilla Trekking

In Uganda, the most sought-after activity is gorilla trekking. These are some of the only leftover mountain gorillas in the world. They live in Bwindi Impenetrable National park and Mgahinga National park. You must purchase a gorilla trekking permit from Uganda Wildlife Authority in order to be part of this adventure. Currently, the cost of a Uganda Gorilla trekking permit is $800 per person for foreign nonresidents, $700 for foreign residents, and 300,000shs for East African Residents.

The gorilla permits for Bwindi Impenetrable National park are sold according to the area, and that is the Buhoma area, Ruhijah area, Nkuringo area, and Rushaga area. Therefore, even accommodation you reserve for gorilla trekking safari must be closer to where your gorilla permit is booked so that you do not have to wake up early to catch up with the briefing.

Mountain gorillas live in families, and Bwindi Impenetrable National park has about 18 gorilla families open for tourism. In contrast, Mgahinga National Park has only one gorilla family open for tourism. The dominant silverback is the leader of each gorilla family, and he fights to his breath to defend his family. He also seeks new feeding grounds for the gorilla trekking family.

Chimpanzee trekking in Uganda

Chimpanzee trekking brings you closer to the closest relatives of man in the animal kingdom. The chimpanzees live in tropical forest. In Uganda, Kibale National park, Kaniyo Pabidi forest, Kyambura gorge, and Kalinzu forest reserve are the renowned homes of chimpanzee trekking.

You need to reserve a chimpanzee trekking permit for the morning or afternoon session to be allowed to attend the chimpanzee trekking. Only six people are allowed to see the chimpanzees per troupe. They live in communities under the leadership of an alpha male.

Game Drives In Uganda

Uganda is one of the lucky hosts of great wild animals in Africa. You can book the game drives to see wild animals like cheetahs, giraffes, cape buffaloes, waterbucks, bushbucks, lions, leopards, hyenas, zebras, impalas, reedbucks, statugas, oribi, and others.

Uganda has several parks where you can do game drives, including Murchison Falls National park, Lake Mburo National Park, Kidepo Valley National Park, and Queen Elizabeth National Park.

You can do game parks in Uganda early morning or late afternoon to enjoy the best experience.

Launch Trips

Uganda has two amazing launch trips: the Murchison Falls launch trip. This takes you to one of the most powerful falls in the world. You watch River Nile squeeze through a narrow bend to burst out vigorously and form a cloudy appearance. This spectacular phenomenon may create a rain bow right before your eyes.

Kazinga channel launch trip is one of the most interesting, with great animals always watched, enjoying the freebies of the banks of this channel. In addition, an array of birds graces this channel’s banks and is a magnet to even foreign migrants that fly from as far as Europe.

Birding In Uganda

Uganda is a destination that still gives birds a home because of its incredible habitats ranging from forest to grassland to swamp vegetation. Uganda hosts over 1000 bird species, including those on the red list of IUCN.

Some Uganda birding destinations include Bwindi Impenetrable National park, Lutembe beach, Lake Mburo National park, Mgahinga National Park, Kibale National Park, Musambwa Island, and others.

Visit the Source Of the river Nile.

Uganda has the source of the River Nile On Lake Victoria. This dramatic point can be accessed by boat. The point where River Nile water separates from lake Victoria water is dramatic; River Nile water violently departs from calm lake Victoria water, and a thin line separates both.

White Water rafting In Uganda

The drama of white water rafting is fantastic, but you do not need any experience to be allowed to do this. Itanda falls is the main white water rafting point on the river Nile. The tides have different levels you can peddle on, but you must tighten your safety gargets. You sail on the harsh waves, but you are led by a kayak that establishes the depth of the water first.

Cultural visit to Uganda

Uganda is a multicultural country, so that you can venture into the different cultures while on a safari within the country's boundaries. There are many tribes like the Banyankole, the Bakinga, Baganda, Basoga, Bagishu, and others. However, the majority have different cultural leaders, like Kabaka of Buganda, Omukama of Bunyoro, Omugabe of Busoga, and Omusinga of Rwenzururu.

Sport Fishing in Uganda.

Uganda has several fishing spots where you can engage in fishing. Still, you must obtain a fishing permit from Uganda Wildlife Authority. This is in case you are to do sport fishing within the national parks. For example, in Murchison fall National park, you can go fishing on River Nile, where you may have the chance to catch fish types like tilapia, Nile perch, catfish, lungfish, and others.

Mountaineering in Uganda

If you wish to test your fitness, you can do mountaineering on some of the highlands in Uganda. Some include Rwenzori, Mountain Elgon, Mountain Muhavura, Mountain Gahinga, Kyaninga highlands, and others. They all offer great views, and you get up. Some also can be hiked in a day, but you need to get an escorting ranger guide to lead the trek. This is to avoid chances of getting a problem while on the way. In addition, some of these highlands have wild animals that take them as habitats.

Primate Walks in Uganda

Apart from the mountain gorillas and chimpanzees, Uganda is endowed with other primates that live within the forests, like the golden monkeys, black and white colobus, red-tailed monkeys, grey-checked mangabey, blue monkeys, olive baboons, and others.

You can take a nature walk within these forests to get an opportunity to meet these primates in their natural home other than the zoos.

What To Pack for Uganda Safari during low season

  • Insect repellant in case your destination is with the national parks where there are different insects.
  • Sunscreen is because Uganda is a tropical country, and the sun's rays may cause skin problems.
  • Safari clothes in wilderness-friendly colors like Tan, Khaki
  • A safari hat with a large brim that can cover your head from buzzing insects.
  • Flip flops to change into after a long day in safari shoes
  • Warm wear to warm you, especially early morning and afternoon
  • A duffel bag to carry with your belongings
  • A camera to preserve memories of your Uganda safari.

The trip of a lifetime. This was the adventure of a lifetime. Being able to be so close to these majestic animals in their natural habitat was breathtaking. Our trip was only two days in duration and in hindsight I would have loved to have done a two day trip. Our trek into the forest was a relatively short one and with only eight people in the group was just the perfect number. Our driver/ guide Jason was the perfect host being so knowledgeable about the gorillas and the local communities surrounding the forest. Our consultant Denis whom we communicated with from the very start of of this experience was nothing short of excellent!! The communication at all times was professional, informative and quick. At times during our hour spent with the gorilla family I had to pinch myself to remind me that this was actually for real and not some excellent wildlife documentary. Words and pictures don’t really convey the remarkable experience that this was. If you are reading this then I would encourage you to have this experience for yourself. Encounter Africa Safaris we’re 5 star from begin to end.

Solo Female Traveler in Uganda - Exceptional experience while feeling safe Being a solo female traveler, I felt incredibly cared for in both the planning and the actual vacation. Denis and the Encounter Africa Safari Team helped me decide on how to book my trip within my budget and with hotels that don't penalize you for staying alone. Beyond that, they provided last-minute changes (about a week before) to what I wanted to see. When my driver arrived, it was a VERY early transfer from a different tour group in the high Bwindi Mountains. Huge shout out to Patrick (my driver), he was very knowledgeable, and has such PASSION for what he does. Not as someone who just bogs you down with all the information in his head (which he was able to answer all my many, many, many many questions) but truly wants to know what would make your vacation the BEST one, what you care about seeing, and provides a view of Uganda through a local's eyes and why it is beautiful to them. He helped me see beyond just the incredible experiences of the Safaris, Nile, Kazinga Channel, and White Water Rafting - but also the people, locations that are off the beaten path, and what truly makes Uganda special and unique in so many ways. I hope to return soon! Thank you for making this investment in memories worth every penny, and for helping me feel safe and respected by both the company staff and every person in the hotels and those we met along the way.

Professional, Responsive, and Reliable – Excellent Experience with Encounter Africa Safaris We had a fantastic experience with Encounter Africa Safaris in Uganda. From the very beginning, their communication was fast, clear, and professional. Monica, in particular, was incredibly responsive and helpful — she answered every question promptly and with genuine care, which gave us great peace of mind while planning our trip.We chose the two-day, one-night itinerary starting and ending in Kigali, with a border crossing into Uganda for gorilla trekking in Bwindi. Everything ran smoothly from pickup to drop-off at Kigali Airport. Our driver, Edgar, was outstanding — calm, friendly, and extremely skilled behind the wheel. Navigating the rough, winding gravel roads to Bwindi is no small task, but Edgar handled it with ease and confidence. We always felt safe and well taken care of, even in the most remote areas. The logistics were smooth, the planning thoughtful, and the overall experience was exactly what we hoped for — efficient, well-organized, and stress-free.If you're considering a safari or gorilla trekking adventure in Uganda, I can highly recommend Encounter Africa Safaris for their professionalism, personal touch, and great team.

Amazing experience I did the 3 day gorilla experience from Kigali and the whole trip was fantastic. From the initial planning with Denis who answered ALL my questions and queries. I was a little nervous about booking directly and online however the company was really professional. I was picked up in Kigali by Godwin and then taken to the Genocide museum then we had a beautiful dive through the Rwandan and Ugandan countryside. I stayed at the Rushaga Gorilla Haven Lodge where the staff were really friendly and with beautiful views of the forest from my bungalow. The gorilla trekking was such a great experience, we got to spent an hour with a family of about 15, I still cannot believe how close we were. On the trip back to Rwanda I had time to drop in at Bunyonyi Lake and did a 2 hour boat trip before being dropped back at Kigali Airport. I enjoyed the whole trip, Godwin took great care of me. I will return again in the future and definitely recommend. Thank you to the Encounter Africa team.

We recently completed a memorable trip organized by Encounter Africa, traveling from Kigali, Rwanda to Entebbe, Uganda, and overall, the experience was overall excellent. Right from the start, everything was well-organized, and the itinerary was thoughtfully planned. The lodges selected for our stay were generally of a high standard, offering comfort, great service, and beautiful surroundings. There was one exception during the trip where a lodge didn’t meet expectations, but we were very impressed with how quickly and professionally Encounter Africa responded. They changed the accommodation immediately without fuss, showing a strong commitment to guest satisfaction. A major highlight of the trip was our guide, Richard (Instagram: @richardmrtravels). Richard was nothing short of fantasti....knowledgeable, friendly, and always ready to help. Whether we had questions about the places we visited, needed assistance with logistics, or just wanted to learn more about the region, Richard was our go-to person. He’s highly recommended if you want a top-notch guide who truly cares about your experience. The gorilla and chimpanzee tracking excursions were absolutely unforgettable—well coordinated, with expert local trackers, and truly one-of-a-kind wildlife encounters. The only downside of the trip was the standard of transport provided. The vehicle’s air conditioning was not functioning properly, which made some of the longer drives uncomfortable, especially during the hotter parts of the day

Patrick was our tour guide and he was nothing short of amazing. He helped to make my wife and my honeymoon unforgettable. He made us feel totally comfortable and and was a pleasure to get to talk with and learn more about Uganda. Without hesitation I recommend his service. Uganda will hold a special place in our heart, in my ways because of Patrick’s level of service and caring nature. The chimp trekking and gorilla hiking were a once in a lifetime experience. Don’t hesitate to use this company and make sure to ask for Patrick!
