It should be noted that most people come to Uganda purposely to trek mountain gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga National Park little knowing that Uganda has a lot to offer when it comes to tourism. There is no doubt that Uganda is referred to as the Pearl of Africa and was voted the best destination in 2015. Today, we look at add ons to your Uganda gorilla safari or activities that you can do after or before your gorilla safari in Uganda.

Things and activities you can add on to your Uganda gorilla safari

In most cases, a gorilla tour in Uganda is 3 days. Day one being for traveling to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, day two for gorilla trekking and day three for returning back from Bwindi to Entebbe for your departure flight out of Uganda. For those that have some days before or after your 3 day gorilla safari, it is possible to enjoy what Uganda has to offer. Suggested Add ons to your Uganda gorilla safari

Those who have their flights arriving early and have an extra day at the beginning of their tour can decide to take an excursion to Ngamba Island as an add on to their gorilla safari. Ngamba island is home to orphaned chimpanzees rescued from animal traffickers. Ngamba Island is located in Lake victoria and half day boat excursions to view these orphaned chimpanzees and listen to an informative talk from one of the care giver are available daily. A boat excursion to the Island takes about 45 minutes in a speed boat and can be done in the morning or afternoon. Tea is served at the island and you get to view two chimpanzee feeding sessions.

Lake Mburo National Park is another add on to your Uganda gorilla safari. This is one of the smallest and closest National Park from Kampala and is mainly used to break the long drive from Kampala to Bwindi impenetrable National Park. Those who are not willing to drive long distances can opt to add on Lake Mburo National Park for one or two days. Activities in Lake Mburo NP include birding, safari walks, boat cruise on the lake as well as game viewing. Stops at Lake Mburo can be done at the beginning or end of your safari.

The other places suggested as add ons to your Uganda gorilla safari include Queen Elizabeth National Park where one can go for game viewing in Mweya as well as Ishasha for the famous tree climbing lions, a boat cruise on Kanzinga channel as well as chimpanzee trekking in Kyambura makes this park one of the best places to add on your Uganda gorilla safari.
