This adventure starts very early to trace the nesting location of the gorilla family, their day hangout and lounging place. Tourists may be asked to take some notes while observing the interactions among the family members. Mountain Gorillas under habituation experience are still very skeptical of intruders in their vicinity.
On the day of the gorilla habituation experience, all tourists gather at the ranger station for briefing, no matter the safari package they are booked to. All have to register at the ranger station to attend gorilla habituation.

You can travel by road to air to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. If you choose to transport by road, you need a 4×4 wheel drive vehicle as the countryside roads sometimes need improvement. The drive time from Kampala or Entebbe to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park may take about 8 to 9 hours.
The route to the southern sector of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is Entebbe/ Kampala-Kabale- Nkuringo. From Kampala to Kabale, the distance is about 414 kilometers, then continues to Nkuringo for about 105 kilometers. You may overnight in Kisoro town, about 80 kilometers from Kabale, and connect to the southern part of Bwindi, which is about 35 kilometers away, driving for approximately 1 hour and fifteen minutes.
Daily domestic flights from Entebbe Airport to Kisoro Airstrip are available, but you must hire a transfer vehicle to the lodge or camp. One needs to secure a seat in advance because they sell out early.

Gas or fuel

International flights

Guidelines for Gorilla Habituation Experience
- In case you catch a communicable infection, volunteer to stay behind. The mountain gorillas are susceptible to these infections.
- No littering the forest because it is where the food for the mountain gorillas grows. If you dump indecomposable garbage, it may alter the nature of the forest.
- No surrounding the mountain gorillas when you meet them. This makes them feel ambushed.
- When eating or smoking, do this beyond 200 meters away from the gorillas to avoid the chances of them grabbing it from you. They are wild animals that must not depend on human provision.
- Spitting on vegetation is forbidden because it may contaminate the food for the mountain gorillas, spreading germs to them.
- When you locate the mountain gorillas, stand about 8 meters from them to reduce the chances of spreading germs to them or to you.
- Provoking the Mountain gorillas is forbidden because they may get agitated by what you do to them.
- When taking photographs before the mountain gorillas, do it using no flash photography because they are often scared of unfamiliar occurrences in their presence?
- Wearing a mask before finding the gorilla is a must. It must Be at least N95 as a measure taken to reduce the chances of passing the coronavirus infection to the mountain gorillas. Sanitize your footwear before stepping into the forest to start gorilla trekking.
- Children aged 15 years are forbidden from attending gorilla trekking because of the matters surrounding this experience, like the time of locating the mountain gorillas is unknown. Some level of patience is needed, which may be hard to deal with when searching for a child. The forest is sometimes slippery, yet you may need to hike to the mountain gorillas. This may be challenging for a child of this age.
