Things to consider before booking a honeymoon safari to Uganda in 2024-25

When planning to book your honeymoon in Uganda for 2024 to 2025, note that gorilla safaris are the main safari activity in Uganda. Purchasing the gorilla permits in advance is vital if you engage in a gorilla safari in Uganda. You can select from gorilla trekking or gorilla habituation experience

4 Days Gorillas and Golden Monkey Safari

2 Day Bwindi Gorilla Safari through Kigali

3 Days Rwanda Gorilla Trekking Safari

5 Day off season Gorilla and Chimp Safari

5 Day Gorilla and Chimp Tracking Safari

16 Days Uganda Primates & Wildlife Safari

5 Day Gorilla & Chimp Tracking Safari

5 Day Low season Uganda Gorilla & Chimp Safari

5 Day Uganda Gorillas & Game Safari via Kigali

5 Day Gorilla Habituation & Chimps

Uganda is gifted by nature, so you have a long list of activities you can engage in, like game drives, chimpanzee safari that is chimpanzee trekking or habituation experience, launch trips in Murchison Falls National Park or Queen Elizabeth National Park, visiting Ssese Island or Lake Bunyonyi and others.

Select carefully the accommodations you will stay at during the honeymoon. Where you sleep creates great memories or may ruin your special moments.

Choose the right time for your honeymoon in Uganda, as the peak season may come with many visitors to the safari destinations and the lodges. If you wish for tranquility and more intimate moments, the peak season may not offer you this opportunity. Uganda's peak tourism period is usually June, July, August, September, December, and January.

Select the best means of transport to your honeymoon destinations, as road transport is the most common way to get around different Uganda safari destinations. Daily domestic flights and charter flight services are also available from Entebbe Airport to various Uganda safari destinations.

Choose activities to engage in during your honeymoon in Uganda. Uganda has several optional activities you can be part of during your honeymoon, like game drives, visiting the source of the River Nile, chimpanzee trekking, Siipi Falls to visit in Mountain Elgon National Park, visiting Lake Bunyonyi or Lake Mutanda, Ssese Island visit to Lake Victoria, enjoy the sunset cruise and others.

Identify a suitable tour company to help you plan the Uganda safari honeymoon so that nothing can ruin your once-in-lifetime moments with your spouse. At Encounter Africa Safaris, we have built trust among clients in organizing honeymoon safaris in Uganda and beyond. The number of referrals and repeat clients we have dealt with over time attests to this. Our over ten years of experience planning safaris has fetched our expertise, which we share with our clients. Customer satisfaction is our top priority on any safari we conduct

What To Consider Before Booking Honeymoon Safari to Uganda 2024-2025

What to do and Where to Go for Honeymoon Safaris in Uganda

Uganda is gifted with various exciting safari destinations you can select from for your honeymoon. Gorilla Safari tops the list of activities you can enjoy during the honeymoon experience in Uganda because of the family ties and values they hold. Because of their limited supply yet demand worldwide, you must secure the gorilla permits in advance. Choose either gorilla trekking or gorilla habituation experience.

Gorilla trekking safaris are where a maximum of 8 tourists search and stay for an hour with a fully habituated gorilla family. Currently, Uganda has over 21 gorilla trekking families in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga National Park.

During the gorilla habituation experience, a maximum of four tourists accompany a team of researchers and trackers in the wilderness to spend four hours with the semi-habituated gorilla family at the moment. Only two gorilla families are open for the habituation adventure in the southern part of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

Other Uganda honeymoon safari activities and destinations

Uganda Game drives

Going for game drives in Murchison Falls National Park, Queen Elizabeth National Park, Lake Mburo National Park, or Kidepo Valley National Park is stunning. During the game drives in tracks within these parks, you may spot lions, giraffes, leopards, herds of elephants, bush bucks, water bucks, waterbucks, bushbucks, warthogs, and so much more.

Some wild animals can be seen in specific parks, but having an open mind during the game drive instead of focusing on seeing particular animals makes the drive more fun.

Chimpanzee safaris in Uganda

Chimpanzee safaris on honeymoon get you closer to man's closest relatives in the animal kingdom, chimpanzees, with about 98% of their DNA similar to that of humans. During the honeymoon, you can choose to do chimpanzee trekking or chimpanzee habituation experience.

Kibale National Park, Kaniyo Pabidi, Kyambura Gorge, Kalinzu Forest, Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary, and others are the primary homes of Uganda chimpanzee safari activities.

Launch trips on honeymoon in Uganda

Having some quality and tranquil moments on honeymoon while on the launch trip in Murchison Falls National Park and Queen Elizabeth National Park is memorable. From the pier at Paraa, you sail on Victoria Nile, enjoying the mesmerizing view of River Nile banks, which wild animals often visit. Look over for a flock of birds that are common to these banks. As you approach the falls, the boat turbulence changes when River Nile water plunges a 43-meter-high cliff.

As the falls come into view, enjoy the stunning view of River Nile water as it squeezes through the 6-meter-wide gorge to burst out and vigorously produce a thundering sound. As honeymooners, you can hire a private launch trip for pleasure and memorable moments.

The Kazinga channel launch trip in Queen Elizabeth National Park is one of the top highlights of a safari in this park. From Mweya pier, you sail on the Kazinga channel on a three-hour return trip. Enjoy the amazing wild animals that often visit the banks of the channel. You may spot lions, waterbucks, bushbucks, cape buffaloes, herds of elephants, and others. Watch out for many birds that clock the banks of the Kazinga channel, including foreign migrants. Within the water, you may spot hippos and Nile crocodiles.

Birding On Honeymoon In Uganda

Keen birders on honeymoon have plenty of birds to identify while on a Uganda safari. Uganda has over 1000 bird species, a record not rivaled in Africa. You need a well-planned Uganda birding itinerary to get a great deal of it. Some of the common Uganda birding destinations include Bwindi Forest, Mgahinga Forest, Mabira Forest, Mabamba Swamp, Mpanga Forest, Queen Elizabeth National Park, Murchison Falls National Park, and others.

Some of the birds you spot on a honeymoon safari in Uganda include Shoebill stock, Handsome Francolin, Shelley's and Dusky Crimsonwing, Rwenzori Turaco, saddle bill stock, greater and lesser Flamingos, Egyptian geese, and others.

During your honeymoon on Uganda Safari, you can also visit serene Ssese Island, tranquil Lake Bunyonyi, or Lake Mutanda, do white water rafting on the River Nile, do sports fishing, take guided nature walks, and others.

Choose Comfortable Accommodation To Use On Honeymoon Safari In Uganda

Most safari destinations in Uganda offer accommodations of different categories: upscale, mid-range, and budget facilities. Where you spend your nights contributes a great deal to the feeling you get after the honeymoon.

Honeymooners would prefer having some quality moments with less intruder interference, so consider this when selecting accommodations.

Remember where your gorilla permit is booked if you do gorilla safaris in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park during your honeymoon. Bwindi impenetrable national park gorilla permits are secured under four areas that are Buhoma, Ruhija, Rushaga, and NKuringo. We recommend spending your nights within or closer to where your gorilla permit is booked. This is to avoid driving in the dark to catch up with briefing before the gorilla safari. Spending the night in another area before the gorilla tour day may require you to go to the briefing point in the dark, which is challenging at times because of the obstacles you may encounter along the way.

Select the transport means to the Uganda safari destinations

Road transport is the primary way to get around Uganda but prepare for your African massage. Do not expect a smooth ride because the roads are generally bumpy and get dusty during the dry season, whereas the wet season makes them messy.

Most Uganda safari destinations can be reached by road, but having a professional and experienced driver guide is an added advantage because you learn more about these destinations. You also never get bored as the driver guide has much to discuss. Hiring a 4x4 wheel drive vehicle in good condition is essential, too.

Daily domestic flights to different regions of Uganda are available from Entebbe airport or Kajjansi airstrip to Kihihi, Kasese, Kisoro, Bugungu, Pakuba airstrips, and others. One must reserve a seat in advance because these flights also sell out.

Charter flights can also be arranged at Entebbe Airport or Kajjansi airstrip if you wish to take private transport during the honeymoon Uganda safari.

Pack the proper Uganda safari attire for your honeymoon

Make sure to prepare your honeymoon Uganda safari experience by packing right. Note that most Uganda safari activities are eco-related. Pack the right gear for gorilla, chimpanzee, or golden monkey safaris.

These Uganda safari activities involve walking in the jungle, which may have rough surfaces. When packing, check the items for gorillas, chimpanzees, or golden monkey safaris. Some items you can pack for a primate safari in Uganda include rainproof gear, a long-sleeved shirt and trousers, bug spray, insect repellant, a first aid kit, a safari hat, a camera, garden gloves, and others.

You can quickly get frustrated if you pack the wrong wear for these primate safaris. There is no need to over-pack for a Uganda safari, but what is relevant for both of you?

Plan to carry some cash for your Uganda safari honeymoon

Carry some hard cash to use while on a honeymoon safari in Uganda. Credit cards are not commonly used in Uganda because of the lengthy process of collecting money from them. Even a few people can use credit card machines upcountry. You can do on-ground transactions, so carry some hard cash to exchange into local currency on arrival.

Some accommodations even offer plans like bread and breakfast, half board, and bed only, so take note of this so that you can carry enough cash to support your Uganda safari honeymoon.

How much is the Cost of a Honeymoon Uganda Safari?

The cost of a honeymoon safari in Uganda varies with what you hope to do and where to go. At Encounter Africa Safaris, we package our honeymoon safaris according to Luxury and mid-range. We look forward to making memories with our clients that will last a lifetime. When you contact us about wishing to do your honeymoon in Uganda, our safari consultants are ready to walk this journey with you and offer advice where necessary.

When costing our safaris, we consider where you are destined, the number of days on the Uganda safari, the number of people traveling with activities to engage in during the Uganda safari, and so much more.

What to Pack For Honeymoon on Uganda Safari

  • Sunscreen as Uganda is a tropical country
  • Hiking boots are safe for going through the jungle since your feet need to be protected from rough conditions.
  • A light, waterproof bag to get all your belongings together, and they do not scatter in the forest.
  •  Sunglasses
  • A pair of binoculars captures the image of the chimpanzees, birds, treetops, and so much more that the forest is proud to host.
  • Insect repellants as your skin is vulnerable to stinging insects that buzz in the forest
  • Long-sleeved shirts and trousers in wilderness-friendly colors like Khaki will be comfortable, and you are not afraid of getting dirty.
  • Use garden gloves because your hands are fragile to tough and rough creepers in the wilderness, but you may trip and fall unknowingly.
  •  Extra fully charged batteries in case one runs low.
  • Toiletries just to be organized in case your lodge doesn't provide
  • Poncho or Raincoat to wear in case it rains while you are in the wilderness.
  • A camera to use for taking photos and protecting memories of your honeymoon experience in Uganda
  • Warmers because the Uganda safari destinations get cold early morning and late afternoons
  • A water bottle keeps water for quenching thirst while in the wilderness.
  • First aid kit for emergency

The trip of a lifetime. This was the adventure of a lifetime. Being able to be so close to these majestic animals in their natural habitat was breathtaking. Our trip was only two days in duration and in hindsight I would have loved to have done a two day trip. Our trek into the forest was a relatively short one and with only eight people in the group was just the perfect number. Our driver/ guide Jason was the perfect host being so knowledgeable about the gorillas and the local communities surrounding the forest. Our consultant Denis whom we communicated with from the very start of of this experience was nothing short of excellent!! The communication at all times was professional, informative and quick. At times during our hour spent with the gorilla family I had to pinch myself to remind me that this was actually for real and not some excellent wildlife documentary. Words and pictures don’t really convey the remarkable experience that this was. If you are reading this then I would encourage you to have this experience for yourself. Encounter Africa Safaris we’re 5 star from begin to end.

Solo Female Traveler in Uganda - Exceptional experience while feeling safe Being a solo female traveler, I felt incredibly cared for in both the planning and the actual vacation. Denis and the Encounter Africa Safari Team helped me decide on how to book my trip within my budget and with hotels that don't penalize you for staying alone. Beyond that, they provided last-minute changes (about a week before) to what I wanted to see. When my driver arrived, it was a VERY early transfer from a different tour group in the high Bwindi Mountains. Huge shout out to Patrick (my driver), he was very knowledgeable, and has such PASSION for what he does. Not as someone who just bogs you down with all the information in his head (which he was able to answer all my many, many, many many questions) but truly wants to know what would make your vacation the BEST one, what you care about seeing, and provides a view of Uganda through a local's eyes and why it is beautiful to them. He helped me see beyond just the incredible experiences of the Safaris, Nile, Kazinga Channel, and White Water Rafting - but also the people, locations that are off the beaten path, and what truly makes Uganda special and unique in so many ways. I hope to return soon! Thank you for making this investment in memories worth every penny, and for helping me feel safe and respected by both the company staff and every person in the hotels and those we met along the way.

Professional, Responsive, and Reliable – Excellent Experience with Encounter Africa Safaris We had a fantastic experience with Encounter Africa Safaris in Uganda. From the very beginning, their communication was fast, clear, and professional. Monica, in particular, was incredibly responsive and helpful — she answered every question promptly and with genuine care, which gave us great peace of mind while planning our trip.We chose the two-day, one-night itinerary starting and ending in Kigali, with a border crossing into Uganda for gorilla trekking in Bwindi. Everything ran smoothly from pickup to drop-off at Kigali Airport. Our driver, Edgar, was outstanding — calm, friendly, and extremely skilled behind the wheel. Navigating the rough, winding gravel roads to Bwindi is no small task, but Edgar handled it with ease and confidence. We always felt safe and well taken care of, even in the most remote areas. The logistics were smooth, the planning thoughtful, and the overall experience was exactly what we hoped for — efficient, well-organized, and stress-free.If you're considering a safari or gorilla trekking adventure in Uganda, I can highly recommend Encounter Africa Safaris for their professionalism, personal touch, and great team.

Amazing experience I did the 3 day gorilla experience from Kigali and the whole trip was fantastic. From the initial planning with Denis who answered ALL my questions and queries. I was a little nervous about booking directly and online however the company was really professional. I was picked up in Kigali by Godwin and then taken to the Genocide museum then we had a beautiful dive through the Rwandan and Ugandan countryside. I stayed at the Rushaga Gorilla Haven Lodge where the staff were really friendly and with beautiful views of the forest from my bungalow. The gorilla trekking was such a great experience, we got to spent an hour with a family of about 15, I still cannot believe how close we were. On the trip back to Rwanda I had time to drop in at Bunyonyi Lake and did a 2 hour boat trip before being dropped back at Kigali Airport. I enjoyed the whole trip, Godwin took great care of me. I will return again in the future and definitely recommend. Thank you to the Encounter Africa team.

We recently completed a memorable trip organized by Encounter Africa, traveling from Kigali, Rwanda to Entebbe, Uganda, and overall, the experience was overall excellent. Right from the start, everything was well-organized, and the itinerary was thoughtfully planned. The lodges selected for our stay were generally of a high standard, offering comfort, great service, and beautiful surroundings. There was one exception during the trip where a lodge didn’t meet expectations, but we were very impressed with how quickly and professionally Encounter Africa responded. They changed the accommodation immediately without fuss, showing a strong commitment to guest satisfaction. A major highlight of the trip was our guide, Richard (Instagram: @richardmrtravels). Richard was nothing short of fantasti....knowledgeable, friendly, and always ready to help. Whether we had questions about the places we visited, needed assistance with logistics, or just wanted to learn more about the region, Richard was our go-to person. He’s highly recommended if you want a top-notch guide who truly cares about your experience. The gorilla and chimpanzee tracking excursions were absolutely unforgettable—well coordinated, with expert local trackers, and truly one-of-a-kind wildlife encounters. The only downside of the trip was the standard of transport provided. The vehicle’s air conditioning was not functioning properly, which made some of the longer drives uncomfortable, especially during the hotter parts of the day

Patrick was our tour guide and he was nothing short of amazing. He helped to make my wife and my honeymoon unforgettable. He made us feel totally comfortable and and was a pleasure to get to talk with and learn more about Uganda. Without hesitation I recommend his service. Uganda will hold a special place in our heart, in my ways because of Patrick’s level of service and caring nature. The chimp trekking and gorilla hiking were a once in a lifetime experience. Don’t hesitate to use this company and make sure to ask for Patrick!
