Rushaga Gorilla Haven Lodge offers both budget and mid-range accommodation services for travelers visiting Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park and are booked for their gorilla tracking in Rushaga sector and Nkuringo sector. In the wake of covid 19, Rushaga gorilla Havens lodge has put in place new normal SOPS to reduce on the spread of the virus during your stay. Rushaga Gorilla Havens lodge is situated in a spectacular spot with great views of Bwindi Forest with sounds of a river flowing close the lodge. Rushaga sector is the most sought place for gorilla tracking in Bwindi Forest given the fact it has the most Gorilla families open for gorilla tracking in Bwindi. Rushaga Gorilla Havens Lodge is located in the south of Bwindi from here you can as well visit Mgahinga Gorilla National Park for Gorilla or Golden monkey tracking. How to access Rushaga Gorilla Havens Lodge
By road: You can access Rushaga Gorilla Havens Lodge from Kampala/Entebbe by private and public transport which is approximately 8-9 hours, for public transport you will need to board buses which costs approximately USD12 per seat that go to Kabale, Miko and Kisoro towns then from here you can hire a motorcycle (boda bodas) or special taxi to take you to the lodge which costs around USD30.
By air: You can access Rushaga Gorilla Havens Lodge by flight from Entebbe International Airport to Kisoro airstrip from here your driver guide will be waiting for you and you will be transferred to the lodge, the hotel can as well organize for you the transfer, we do advice you always book your transfer from Kisoro Airstrip to the lodge in advance so that a driver will have to wait for you at Kisoro airstrip to take you to the lodge.
You can also access Rushaga Gorilla Havens Lodge from Kigali, Rwanda which is 4-5 hours drive you will cross through border points of Cyanika or Katuna from Kigali to Uganda and then proceed to the lodge. From Kabale and Kisoro towns it is 1-2 hours drive each way to the lodge.
Rooms and Prices of Rushaga Gorilla Havens Lodge
Rushaga Gorilla Havens Lodge provides modern and unique facilities with a touch of African architecture. The lodge has clean and good rooms ranging from standard to luxury which you can choose from for your stay during your gorilla trek, the lodge has free wifi, a garden and terrace for you to relax during your stay here. There are options when choosing accommodation; Rushaga Gorilla Havens Lodge offers Standard, deluxe Rooms and a Family Cottage all with en-suite facilities. The rate card ranges from USD100 sharing per person per night for a Standard Cottage and USD400 sharing per night for the family cottage during high reason months of December, January, February, June, July, August, and September. The room rates are inclusive of meals on daily full board basis.
Activities to do during your stay at Rushaga Gorilla Havens Lodge
Gorilla Trekking in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Rushaga sector
During your stay at Rushaga Gorilla Havens Lodge you will be able to go for gorilla tracking in Bwindi Forest at either Rushaga sector or Nkuringo sector which is 15 minutes and 45 minutes drive respectively. A gorilla permits costs USD700 for non foreign residents, USD600 for foreign residents and USD70 for East African citizens per person per trek we do recommend you book your permits atleast 3-5 months in advance to avoid missing out given the fact they are sell out in advance due to high demand. Gorilla Habituation Experience in Bwindi Forest
Gorilla Habituation Experience is only done in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, this experience gives you an opportunity to spend more time with mountain gorillas that is 4 hours, and you will visit the semi-habituated mountain gorilla groups to make them get used to human presence for future normal trekking. This experience is unique to the normal trekking given the fact you are only 4 in group compared to 8 for normal trekking. The gorilla habituation permit costs USD1500 per person per trek which is also recommended to be booked in advance.
Bird Watching
Rushaga Gorilla Havens Lodge is located adjacent to Bwindi Forest which has over 400 bird species while your stay here you will have a chance to spot some birds at your room balcony, you can as well organize with the lodge for a full day birding activity.
Batwa Cultural Experience
Rushaga Gorilla Havens Lodge is located within the batwa communities; you will have a chance to interact with them during your stay here where you will learn about their day to day life, enjoy their local dances and art. You will as well have a chance to visit the local community schools where you can talk to the young children in class as give them scholastic materials in case you have carried some.
Golden Monkey Trekking/Habituation
Golden Monkey tracking/Habituation is done in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park which is 1-2 hours drive from the lodge, a golden monkey tracking permit costs USD100 while for habituation costs USD135 per person including park entrance fees. While at Rushaga Gorilla Havens Lodge and you have enough time you can do all the above activities as per your request, it is only Gorilla tracking and gorilla habituation that is recommended you book in advance; other activities can be book later on during your stay at the lodge.
Forest walks
Rushaga Gorilla Havens Lodge is located close to Bwindi Forest, you will have time to go for a forest walk where you can as well spot various bird species, learn about the flora and Bwindi Forest.
Visit Lake Bunyonyi for dug-out canoeing and bird watching
From Rushaga Gorilla Havens Lodge to Lake Bunyonyi it is about 1-2 hours drive, while at Lake Bunyonyi you will be able to do canoeing to visit various historical islands on the lake as well spot various bird species.
Visit Lake Mutanda for the visits to the Islands of the African Rock Pythons.
