Please encourage them to do some exercises to keep fit, especially for gorilla habituation experience where you may be required to hike to find these primates. Take them through the rules of gorilla and chimpanzee habituation experience so that they know what to do and what to do in advance.

When Can I Book Gorilla and Chimpanzee Habituation Safari For Christmas Day?

Booking the gorilla and chimpanzee habituation safari in advance is the best choice; however, the time of booking them is important. As advised earlier, the demand for gorilla and chimpanzee permits is very competitive, especially during the festive season. Booking the gorilla and chimpanzee permits is the only confirmation of this adventure. You must do more than just walk in to do gorilla or chimpanzee habituation experience because the number of those allowed to participate is restricted; that is a maximum of four participants per troop.

You can book the gorilla and chimpanzee habituation experience safari as early as 6 months to a year upfront because last-minute bookings are likely to be a success. As the festive season draws closer, gorilla and chimpanzee safari permits are scarce.

How Much Is The Gorilla And Chimpanzee Habituation Safari?

The cost of gorilla and chimpanzee habituation experience varies, and at Encounter Africa safaris, we package our safaris according to Luxury, Mid-range, and Budget. The gorilla and chimpanzee permit costs are cut across all safari categories, which is $1500 for the gorilla habituation experience permit and $300 for the chimpanzee habituation experience.

Finding the quotation of the gorilla and chimpanzee habituation experience safaris also depends on factors like the number of days on safari, the number of additional activities to combine with this primate safari, the time of booking the safari, and others.

Why is the Gorilla and chimpanzee habituation permit expensive?

When you purchase the gorilla or chimpanzee permit, you enjoy either gorilla or chimpanzee habituation for hours. This experience gives you extra time with these primates. Gorilla or chimpanzee trekking allows you only one hour with a fully habituated gorilla family. The four hours with the mountain gorilla or chimpanzees give you a unique experience of these primates.

The gorilla and chimpanzee permit cost is quite high as this is one way to collect funds to support the conservation of mountain gorillas and chimpanzees. The number of primates worldwide is dwindling due to human interference, loss of habitats, pandemics, and other factors.

In order to conserve these endangered primates sustainably, some funding is needed. You must engage the local community to conserve the mountain gorillas or chimpanzees. A portion of the money from the sale of the gorilla and chimpanzee permits is given back to the community as a way to compensate them for the times these primates stray into their gardens.

The community is also often sensitized about the importance of conserving these primates in their habits.

From the community, most ranger guides are employed to protect the mountain gorillas and their habitats, boosting their livelihood. They are paid from the sale of gorilla and chimpanzee permits.

What is the Age Limit for gorilla and chimpanzee habituation experience?

15 years and over is the age limit for gorilla habituation experience, and beyond 15 years is the age limit for chimpanzee habituation experience. These ages were set because gorilla and chimpanzee safaris are done in the wilderness, requiring walking.

At a glance, the mountain gorillas and chimpanzees may stimulate some adrenaline, which may be hard for a child under these ages to contain. Any uncomfortable move done before the mountain gorillas or chimpanzees makes visitors look suspended before these primates, which may push them into the denser ends of the forest.

The topography of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is mountainous due to volcanic action in this area. It may be hard for a child below 15 years old to complete the search for mountain gorillas, especially if they are unfit.

How Long Is Gorilla and Chimpanzee Habituation Experience?

The time of finding the mountain gorillas and chimpanzees is hard to determine as this depends on factors prevailing in the wilderness. Some tourists have located the mountain gorillas in two hours while others have spent more time.

Finding the mountain gorillas or chimpanzees may depend on weather conditions prevailing during the day, the pace of fellow tourists, the death of a troop member, especially the leaders, the feeding location of these primates, and others.

When you find mountain gorillas or chimpanzees, only four hours are allowed with these semi-habituated primates, but be very careful to keep the rules of these adventures intact.

Have some patience before finding the mountain gorillas or chimpanzees to maintain the morale of the entire adventure. Look out for other forest dwellers like birds, butterflies, monkeys, and so much more that the forest offers. There is plenty to see in the wilderness while searching for mountain gorillas or chimpanzees.

What are the Guidelines for gorilla and chimpanzee habituation experience?

  • Littering alters the natural habitat where these primates thrive. When you dump items like plastic, they do not decompose, which changes the nature of the forest, which is the habitat these primates feed.
  • Spitting on vegetation is forbidden because it contaminates the food for the mountain gorillas and chimpanzees.
  • Stay in a tight group during the gorilla or chimpanzee habituation experience because they feel ambushed, insecure, and agitated when you surround them. This may lead them to retreat into the deeper ends of the park.
  • Flash photography is prohibited because mountain gorillas or chimpanzees fear new occurrences in their environment.
  • In case you catch any communicable infection like cholera, flu, cough, Corona Virus, volunteer to stay behind so that you don’t pass it to the gorillas. They are highly susceptible to human infections. The extent to which they may be affected may cause the conservation work done to go back to highly endangered.
  • Eating or smoking 300 meters closer to the mountain gorillas is forbidden to prevent the chances of the gorillas or chimpanzees grabbing it from you. Wild animals must search for their own food and not depend on human provision.
  •  Burry all fecal materials beyond recognition so the animals in the forest cannot exhume them. Ask the ranger to dig a hole for you about 30 cm and cover it well.
  • If you wish to sneeze or cough, avoid the mountain gorillas or chimpanzees and use your handkerchief or elbow.
  • Try not to talk loudly or make noise when going on a gorilla and chimpanzee habituation experience. You may also scare the other forest dwellers, which may be interesting.
  •  Wearing a clean mask before meeting the mountain gorillas or chimpanzees is an added rule for all primate safaris after the Corona Virus Lockdown.
  • The age limit for gorilla habituation experience is 15 years, and beyond 15 years for chimpanzee habituation experience because children below this age may not withstand the conditions in the forest.
  • When you locate the mountain gorillas, you are allowed only four hours with them. This allows the gorillas and chimpanzees to go about their day-to-day activities. They have been habituated to be in the presence of humans for just those hours.
  • Keep a distance of about 8 meters from the mountain gorillas or chimpanzees when you locate them. This reduces the chances of passing an infection to the primates.

Spend your holiday with the mountain gorillas and chimpanzees to create incredible memories. Contact us to plan your safari today.

The trip of a lifetime. This was the adventure of a lifetime. Being able to be so close to these majestic animals in their natural habitat was breathtaking. Our trip was only two days in duration and in hindsight I would have loved to have done a two day trip. Our trek into the forest was a relatively short one and with only eight people in the group was just the perfect number. Our driver/ guide Jason was the perfect host being so knowledgeable about the gorillas and the local communities surrounding the forest. Our consultant Denis whom we communicated with from the very start of of this experience was nothing short of excellent!! The communication at all times was professional, informative and quick. At times during our hour spent with the gorilla family I had to pinch myself to remind me that this was actually for real and not some excellent wildlife documentary. Words and pictures don’t really convey the remarkable experience that this was. If you are reading this then I would encourage you to have this experience for yourself. Encounter Africa Safaris we’re 5 star from begin to end.

Solo Female Traveler in Uganda - Exceptional experience while feeling safe Being a solo female traveler, I felt incredibly cared for in both the planning and the actual vacation. Denis and the Encounter Africa Safari Team helped me decide on how to book my trip within my budget and with hotels that don't penalize you for staying alone. Beyond that, they provided last-minute changes (about a week before) to what I wanted to see. When my driver arrived, it was a VERY early transfer from a different tour group in the high Bwindi Mountains. Huge shout out to Patrick (my driver), he was very knowledgeable, and has such PASSION for what he does. Not as someone who just bogs you down with all the information in his head (which he was able to answer all my many, many, many many questions) but truly wants to know what would make your vacation the BEST one, what you care about seeing, and provides a view of Uganda through a local's eyes and why it is beautiful to them. He helped me see beyond just the incredible experiences of the Safaris, Nile, Kazinga Channel, and White Water Rafting - but also the people, locations that are off the beaten path, and what truly makes Uganda special and unique in so many ways. I hope to return soon! Thank you for making this investment in memories worth every penny, and for helping me feel safe and respected by both the company staff and every person in the hotels and those we met along the way.

Professional, Responsive, and Reliable – Excellent Experience with Encounter Africa Safaris We had a fantastic experience with Encounter Africa Safaris in Uganda. From the very beginning, their communication was fast, clear, and professional. Monica, in particular, was incredibly responsive and helpful — she answered every question promptly and with genuine care, which gave us great peace of mind while planning our trip.We chose the two-day, one-night itinerary starting and ending in Kigali, with a border crossing into Uganda for gorilla trekking in Bwindi. Everything ran smoothly from pickup to drop-off at Kigali Airport. Our driver, Edgar, was outstanding — calm, friendly, and extremely skilled behind the wheel. Navigating the rough, winding gravel roads to Bwindi is no small task, but Edgar handled it with ease and confidence. We always felt safe and well taken care of, even in the most remote areas. The logistics were smooth, the planning thoughtful, and the overall experience was exactly what we hoped for — efficient, well-organized, and stress-free.If you're considering a safari or gorilla trekking adventure in Uganda, I can highly recommend Encounter Africa Safaris for their professionalism, personal touch, and great team.

Amazing experience I did the 3 day gorilla experience from Kigali and the whole trip was fantastic. From the initial planning with Denis who answered ALL my questions and queries. I was a little nervous about booking directly and online however the company was really professional. I was picked up in Kigali by Godwin and then taken to the Genocide museum then we had a beautiful dive through the Rwandan and Ugandan countryside. I stayed at the Rushaga Gorilla Haven Lodge where the staff were really friendly and with beautiful views of the forest from my bungalow. The gorilla trekking was such a great experience, we got to spent an hour with a family of about 15, I still cannot believe how close we were. On the trip back to Rwanda I had time to drop in at Bunyonyi Lake and did a 2 hour boat trip before being dropped back at Kigali Airport. I enjoyed the whole trip, Godwin took great care of me. I will return again in the future and definitely recommend. Thank you to the Encounter Africa team.

We recently completed a memorable trip organized by Encounter Africa, traveling from Kigali, Rwanda to Entebbe, Uganda, and overall, the experience was overall excellent. Right from the start, everything was well-organized, and the itinerary was thoughtfully planned. The lodges selected for our stay were generally of a high standard, offering comfort, great service, and beautiful surroundings. There was one exception during the trip where a lodge didn’t meet expectations, but we were very impressed with how quickly and professionally Encounter Africa responded. They changed the accommodation immediately without fuss, showing a strong commitment to guest satisfaction. A major highlight of the trip was our guide, Richard (Instagram: @richardmrtravels). Richard was nothing short of fantasti....knowledgeable, friendly, and always ready to help. Whether we had questions about the places we visited, needed assistance with logistics, or just wanted to learn more about the region, Richard was our go-to person. He’s highly recommended if you want a top-notch guide who truly cares about your experience. The gorilla and chimpanzee tracking excursions were absolutely unforgettable—well coordinated, with expert local trackers, and truly one-of-a-kind wildlife encounters. The only downside of the trip was the standard of transport provided. The vehicle’s air conditioning was not functioning properly, which made some of the longer drives uncomfortable, especially during the hotter parts of the day

An unforgettable immersion in the heart of Ugandan nature 🌿 An unforgettable stay in Uganda! The observation of gorillas and chimpanzees will remain in my memory. The Jeep rhino tour with a private guide was amazing. Everything was perfectly organized, respectful of nature and animals. A magical experience that I recommend 100%!A thought also for our guide Patrick who was simply perfect
