RWENZORI HIKING ADVENTURES.

GAME DRIVES AND BOAT CRUISES IN QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK

Among exciting things to see and do from Kasese town is a visit to the popular Queen Elizabeth National Park. Queen Elizabeth National Park is one of the best places to see wildlife on a game drive or a boat cruise.

Its just a few minute’s drive from Kasese town to Mweya (Northern side) of Queen Elizabeth National Park, where game drives are conducted in the open savannah grasslands of Kasenyi. Many animals can be spotted on a game drives including big cats, elephants, buffaloes, many types of antelopes and birds.

Kazinga channel provides a highlight of all activities in Queen Elizabeth National Park. Take a private or scheduled boat and be able to enjoy abundant wildlife both land and aquatic. Kazinga channel is the place that has the highest concentration of hippos in the whole world. Many animals flock this channel for drinking water thus providing a one stopover for wildlife viewing in your boat.

TREE CLIMBING LIONS OF ISHAASHA

Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park is popular for lions that climb trees. If you are in Kasese and you want to see and enjoy them, you will have to drive approximately one and a half hours to the southern part of Queen Elizabeth National park to search for them.

We advise you to spend at least 3 to 4 nights to enable you do several game drives as sporting them is a chance provided by nature.

CHIMPANZEE TREKKING IN KYAMBURA AND KARINZU FOREST RESERVE

For primates lovers, Kyambura gorge and Karinzu Forest provide an avenue for chimpanzee trekking and nature walks from Kasese town.’

Kyambura gorge is located within Queen Elizabeth National Park and has one habituated chimpanzee community/family open for chimp trekking twice a day. From Kasese, you are able to visit the gorge for a morning chimp trekking excursion or the afternoon.

A few chimp permits are available daily and can only be booked from UWA headquarters in Kampala through a licensed Tour operator such as Encounter Africa safaris. We advise you to book such permits in advance of at least a week much as last minute bookings are okay.

Karinzu forest reserve in the nearby Rubirizi District also provides an avenue to trek chimpanzees in their natural environment. Chimpanzee permits for Karinzu forest reserve are issued out by National Forest Authority and can also be obtained on ground.

CHIMP TREKKING IN KIBALE FOREST NATIONAL PARK

Kibale National Park is one of the best places to trek habituated chimpanzees and spot the other 11 primate species and birds in Africa. Chances of seeing chimps in Kibale Forest are much higher compared to other places in Uganda thus it would be wise to drive approximately two hours to Kibale National Park for a primate experience.

Kibale National Park also provides an avenue for forest walks, bird watching and the Bigodi cultural experience and swamp walk.

GORILLA TREKKING IN BUHOMA REGIONS

Gorilla trekking to Buhoma from Kasese is possible since Buhoma is the closest region to Queen Elizabeth National Park. It is possible to drive from Kasese town to Buhoma side of Bwindi for an overnight and then participate in gorilla trekking the next day.

Gorilla permits for Buhoma must be booked and secured in advance. Permits are booked by licensed tour operators in Uganda. Encounter Africa Safaris takes care of booking your permits and all services once contacted.
