No foods/drinks, refrain from eating or drinking near the chimpanzees to avoid associating humans with food. Food can distract chimpanzees and disrupt the habituation process, making them associate humans with food rather than neutral observers. This can also lead to health problems and dependency.
Stay calm, remain calm and composed, even if chimpanzees approach or tend to display aggressively. Follow guides’ instructions, and adhere to the guides’ instructions and warnings to ensure safety during gorilla habituation. A calm presence helps the chimpanzees feel more at ease allowing them to become habituated to humans more easily, the calmness reduces stress on both humans and chimpanzees creating a more relaxed atmosphere for habituation. Calmness reduces disturbance to the chimpanzee’s natural behavior allowing for more behavior for accurate observations.
Respect boundaries, maintain a safe distance and respect chimpanzees’ personal space. Respecting boundaries prevents disruption to the habituation process allowing the chimpanzees to become comfortable with the human presence at their own pace. During chimpanzee habituation respecting boundaries maintains a safe distance and reduces the risk of aggression or defensive behavior ensuring a safer experience for both humans and chimpanzees.
No touching or feeding, never touch or feed chimpanzees as this can disrupt their natural behavior. Touching can transmit diseases between humans and chimpanzees hence threatening their health, because feeding can disrupt the habituation process making the chimpanzees associate humans with food rather than the observers.
