ENGAGI LODGE-LUXURY OPTIONS IN BUHOMA
Engagi Lodge is a modern Luxury lodge in a breathtaking setting offering stunning views over the forest. The lodge is located in Buhoma sector of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park and runs from the main road to the Park Headquarters down to the Munyaga River. The lodge has been built using local materials from rocks found in and around the site and eucalyptus trees while the rooms are thatched from banana fibre sourced from local farmers. Clients can walk around the lodge down to the river, viewing the birdlife and flora of the area.
Rooms and Rates
The Engagi Lodge has a total of eight en-suite cottages, spaced out and hidden in the foliage. Each cabin has either double or twin beds, a bathroom with flushing toilets and hot and cold running water. All have private verandahs where guests can enjoy their morning tea or coffee as they watch out over the forest canopy. Electricity is provided by solar power to minimize the negative impact on the environment and to promote sustainable tourism; there are several charging spots. How to access Engagi lodge in Buhoma
Engagi Lodge can be accessed by road transport from Kampala/Entebbe by road for approximately 8-9hours drive, and as well from Kigali, Rwanda via Katuna Border which is between Uganda and Rwanda as it is even a short drive of about 5-6hours. Also, you have a lot to see on the road. You can also access the lodge by air transport; it is an hour drive from Kihihi Airstrip which is very close to Buhoma sector and Bwindi. There are has daily domestic flights by domestic Airline companies with morning and afternoon schedules for visitors to Bwindi impenetrable national park.

Gorilla tracking
Gorilla tracking is the main activity that visitors do participate in while at their stay at Engagi lodge. Its proximity to Bwindi Impenetrable National park allows visitors to participate in activities such as gorilla trekking in Buhoma and Ruhija sectors of Bwindi. It is about 20 minutes’ drive to the park headquarters in Buhoma and about 1:30 hours’ drive to the park headquarters in Ruhija
Gorilla tracking is the prime activity in Bwindi impenetrable national park and regarded as a lifetime activity with the gorillas which has attracted more visitors in Uganda. Visitors participate in walking through the forest to find the gorillas and you are allowed one hour for viewing and taking photographs, as you also get information from the guides. Bird watching in Bwindi
Bird watching is one of the must-do activities in Bwindi, given the fact the forest is home to over 350 bird species. Birding in Bwindi forest is best done at Mubwindi swamp; we will spend the entire day birding at this area. Mubwindi Swamp is also home to Dwarf Honeyguide, Stripe-breasted Tit, Ruwenzori Apalis, African Hill Babbler (sometimes treated as a separate species from Ruwenzori Hill Babbler), and the rare and localized Grauer’s Scrub-Warbler and many others. Since the lodge is close to the forest, you will be able to see any birds any time of the day, some even visit the gardens of the lodge, and you find some when you take a walk to the river stream.
Nature walks
You can Explore Bwindi forest as you go on private walking trails around the lodge and down to the nearby river. You can book an extra day to take a beautiful walk through various trails in the forest to the see waterfalls and other marvels. Uganda wildlife Authority established nature walk trails in Bwindi Forest and Buhoma sector for guided walks for visitors. The guided walks can start at any time of the day depending on the time the visitor has, during the walks, you will be able to see the different tree species, Forest birds, cross streams and swamps. You will be guided on various trails for a thrilling experience.
Community and Batwa cultural experience
This great encounter can be arranged in your free time while at Engagi Lodge. Bwindi Forest used to harbour the Batwa Pygmies in the forest who were evacuated as a conservation measure of the endangered apes and primates. The Batwa Cultural encounter will expose you to their unique culture, dance, way of life, the food they eat as they introduce you to their traditional forest life. In the trail, The Batwa will lead into the forest in which they demonstrate their traditional forest life such as hunting, fruit gathering, collecting honey and performing rituals, among others. These Batwa trails are organized to appreciate the culture and also support the livelihoods of the communities around the park by paying a fee. Donations to children, women groups are much appreciated and even buying souvenirs supports the community.
