How to book your Xmas gorilla and chimpanzee habituation experience safari/permit
Your Christmas gorilla and chimp habituation experience safari can only be guaranteed when gorilla and chimp permits are booked and secured. When you contact Encounter Africa safaris, we will check availability of gorilla and chimpanzee permits on 25th December which is Christmas day and then get back to you. Depending on the availability of gorilla and chimp permits, you may trek gorillas or chimps on Christmas. By this, we may decide to start with gorillas or chimps depending on availability. Once we ascertain availability of permits, we will reserve them on the system for 4 days, invoice you for the same. As soon as payment is made by credit card or wire transfer, we will go ahead and pay for your gorilla and chimpanzee permits. Please note that gorilla and chimpanzee permits are issued on first come first serve basis by Uganda Wildlife Authority and Encounter Africa safaris has no control over this. What we can do to ensure that you don’t miss on this, we will reserve your permits and pay for them as soon as you send us proof of payment. Your Christmas gorilla and chimpanzee experience safari will see you drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park on 24th December. This journey will have you stopover at the equator for photography, Mbarara for lunch before proceeding to the southern part of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for overnight at your lodge. Along the way, you will not want miss to meet the Hima with grazing their Ankole long-horned cattle as well as some impalas and Zebras in community lands near lake Mburo National Park.
The second day is normally for transferring to the park headquarters for briefing about the does and don’ts while with mountain gorillas. Gorilla habituation experience briefing starts early in the morning where you will be joined by your guide of the day and a team of experts in gorilla habituation. After the briefing, you will head to the forest to search for mountain gorillas under habituation. This process involves locating where these gorillas will be. You will be involved in activities that help in getting wild gorillas to get used to human beings. These may involve making calls, collecting specimens, tests, etc. This process or activity is limited to four hours after that, and you will again walk back to the starting point or park headquarters where you will be awarded your certificate.
On the third day, you will drive to Kibale National Park home to habituated, and none habituated chimpanzees. Kibale has been voted as the best place to see habituated chimpanzees in Africa. If you arrive early, you will join the community for the popular bigodi wetland walk then dinner and overnight at your lodge.
On the fourth day, you will head to the park headquarters for briefing about the dos and don’ts while with chimpanzees under habituation. You will then head to the forest with a team of experts in making wild chimpanzees get familiar with people. You will spend half a day participating and then return to your lodge for dinner and dinner and overnight. The 5th day will be for driving back to Entebbe International Airport for your flight out.
