Uganda Wildlife Authority introduced checking gorilla permit availability online and book. This involves checking gorilla permit in your office. Initially, Uganda tour operators under their umbrella association, The Association of Uganda Tour Operators (AUTO) had opposed this initiative on the basis that it was meant to push them out of business since what UWA was proposing was to put gorilla permits online for everybody to see, check availability and book these permits. It took several consultative meeting for UWA and Uganda Tour Operators to reach a consensus. It was later agreed that UWA introduces checking gorilla permit availability online but only to be done by Uganda tour operators in Uganda only

Checking gorilla permit availability online introduced in Uganda
Checking gorilla permit availability online started with Uganda Wildlife Authority introducing their proposal to all stakeholders in the tourism industry who agreed that there is no harm of putting gorilla permits online but only to be checked by Uganda Tour operators. With this agreement, Uganda Wildlife Authority started by training tour operators in Uganda and later installing the system in their offices online. Those trained are now checking gorilla and chimp permits availability in their own offices and are able to book them tentatively and then pay for them in the next seven working days. The something applies to chimpanzee permits for Kibale national Park which can also be viewed and booked online.
While checking gorilla permit availability on line, Bwindi is divided into four regions of Buhoma, Ruhija, Nkuringo and Rushaga each showing permits available per region. This is done in colors with Green indicating available permits while red indicating that there no permits on that given day. Orange means that there are some permits available while others have been booked.
