Amos Ochieng

Amos Ochieng - Managing Director

Hi, I’m Amos Ochieng the Managing Director and team leader at Encounter Africa Safaris. I attended Makerere University where I did a bachelors degree in Tourism Management. I hold a master’s degree in Leisure, Tourism and Environment from Wegeningen University the Netherlands and am currently pursuing a PhD at Wageningen University focusing on Wildlife conservation for rural livelihood change. Am an assistant lecturer on the Bachelor of tourism program at Makerere University and a team leader of motivated staff of Encounter Africa Safaris. My tourism journey has seen me work with well established tour companies and providing consultancy services to conservation organizations and travel Agencies. I have been to Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi, South Africa and to most European countries. Welcome to Encounter Africa Safaris.

At Encounter Africa Safaris ltd, we understand that a professional and knowledgeable guide is part and parcel of any successful safari. We have a team of professional, well trained, motivated team of driver guides who have been with us for the last 10 years as guides and tour leaders of international groups. Our guides are knowledgeable in flora, fauna and history of all destinations we offer and have trained with Uganda Safari Guides Association, Uganda Wildlife Authority and Uganda Bird guides Club. They have trained in defensive driving to make sure that their driving skills improve.

Tolbert Gumisiriza - Operations and Head Guide

Hello, Am a Ugandan who grew up in Jinja, the source of the longest Nile on planet earth. During my childhood stage, I used to admire safari guides in their vehicles. After my studies, I decided to pursue a carrier in tourism which is my passion. I have been guiding tourists for the last 8 years as a guide and tour leader for big groups. I have trained with Uganda Wildlife Authority on guiding in National Park, Uganda Safari Guides Association on guiding and public relations, Uganda bird guides association specializing in birding and I have been to Burindi, Rwanda, Kenya and Tanzania while guiding our clients. I have been in this business of guiding for quite some time. About 10 years? Only God knows how much I love this job. I hold a bachelors degree in Tourism Management from Makerere University and I choose not to sit in office but to show our clients the beauty of our country Uganda. I have been to Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi and of course Uganda guiding clients. Hi, am Robert a Karamanjongo from North Eastern Uganda. Have you had of Kidepo National Park? Yes that’s where I come from. I spent my childhood time in National Park since my father worked with Uganda Wildlife Authority and because of this; I managed to learn more about wildlife in National Parks of Uganda. Are you a bird enthusiast? Join me as we identify forest, water and forest birds in Uganda. I walk with by binoculars since every day is a birding day. I hold certificates from Uganda Bird Guides club, Uganda Safari Guides Association and defensive driving.

Hello Guys? I am a computer engineer by profession and a guide by nature and passion. Three years at Makerere University doing a bachelors in Computer engineering was a waste of time as all I wanted was to spend time with people and not computers. I have been guiding for Encounter Africa Safaris for the past seven years to Rwanda, Burundi and Uganda.
