Collecting gorilla permits from Uganda Wildlife Authority head office is the last, but one of the most important steps in as far as securing gorilla permits is concerned in Uganda. All those interested in seeing mountain gorillas in Uganda more especially in Bwindi impenetrable National Park and mgahinga must secure or book gorilla permits and pick or collect them before the trekking date. It is these permits that will be presented on the ground in Bwindi impenetrable National Park or Mgahinga National Park.
The procedure of booking and collecting gorilla permits in Uganda
Before thing of collecting your gorilla permit from Uganda Wildlife Authority head office in Kampala, you must have passed through all process of booking. A proper gorilla trekking permit booking process starts with you contacting Uganda wildlife Authority about your desire to trek mountain gorillas in Uganda. UWA reservations department will assist you on this, or you may choose to contact Encounter Africa safaris to do this job on your behalf.
When you contact Encounter Africa safaris, one of our safari consultants will check availability of gorilla permits for Bwindi impenetrable National Park or Mgahinga National Park on UWA system or by calling reservations office at UWA. Once it is established that there is availability, the assigned safari designer will let you know about this before sending you an invoice to make payment for your gorilla permits.
Encounter Africa safaris accepts two modes of payment. You can wire your funds on to our bank account and send us proof of payment or pay by credit card, and this is instant but attracts a surcharge of 5% of the total amount. In all this, it takes about 2-3 working days for the money to appear on our bank account. Once the payment appears on our bank account, we will withdraw it and pay for your gorilla permits. At this point, UWA will give us a receipt which is proof that we have indeed paid your gorilla permit. We will then send you scanned copies of these receipts for your records and perusal.
Collecting gorilla permits from UWA
Uganda wildlife Authority prints out gorilla permit cards one or two weeks time to trekking date. If you book your gorilla permits with Encounter Africa safaris, we will send someone to pick or collect your gorilla permit from UWA. At this stage, our office will go with the receipts to reservations office where they will use these receipts and Identification number to tress and print your gorilla permit.
Just like receipts, when gorilla permits are collected from Uganda Wildlife Authority, they will be kept safely at our office until the time to start your safari comes. After collecting gorilla permits from UWA, we may send you scanned copies of your cards on top of the receipts that we would have sent a while ago. We keep the originals until your safari comes.
Keeping records of all our gorilla permits

We have hard and soft copies plus a fully functional database where we keep these gorilla permits. This makes it easy to trace receipts or gorilla permit cards when needed. On the day your start your gorilla tour, your assigned guide will collect your gorilla permit cards from our office and will keep them on your behalf until they will be presented to the warden or in charge on the ground. If you want to look at the original gorilla permit cards, feel free to ask your guide, and he will oblige.
For safaris starting and ending in Kigali Rwanda, your gorilla permits will be collected from UWA and sent to respective lodges where our guides will find them. This is done in advance so that no issue should arise.
