NO MORE DISCOUNTED GORILLA PERMITS IN UGANDA. ALL GORILLA PERMITS COST USD600 FOR FOREIGN NON RESIDENTS AND USD500 FOR FOREIGN RESIDENTS

Uganda wildlife authority has today 28th July 2015 announced low season rates and 2016-17 discounted gorilla permits at $450.00 per person per trek during the months of April, May and November. This campaign will run for the next two years of 2016 and 2017 encouraging more tourists to visit Uganda and trek the rare and endangered mountain gorillas of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga National Park.

This exciting news was revealed my Mr Raymond Engena who is the director of tourism development at Uganda Wildlife authority during his presentation at the Uganda Tourism Forum at Hotel Africana entitled “The status of Uganda Tourism” organized by Uganda Tourism Association which is the umbrella association of all private sector association.

It is very true that discounted gorilla permits in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 have been costing $350 and by putting them at $450 for foreign none residents portrays an increase in price bu $100, this does not mean that Uganda is indeed becoming an expensive destination compared to Rwanda that charges $750 per gorilla permit in both high and low season.

2016-17 discounted gorilla permits launched by UEA at $450 will enable all those that want to trek gorillas during low season to save $150.00 off every gorilla permit booked and purchased during off season months of April, May and November 2016 and 2017.

Mr Engena Raymond urged all stake holders in the tourism industry to follow the trends at Uganda Wildlife authority and offer off season discounts to enable tourists to visit Uganda as a tourism destination. He was quick to mentioned that failure to do that, Uganda will always be looked at as an expensive tourism destination.
